Restaurants of yesteryear

What Restaurants did you grow up around? I'm not talking super fancy and yes fast-food counts. What distinctive memories do you associate with them?

Mine?

Taco Via-(the lit up menu of the various taco plates displayed on the wall), WhiteCastle-On a paper plate with fries and Pepsi, Arthur Treachers(off Noland), Tippins(off Noland), Perkins(the free toy well), Country Deli(awesome local deli to Blue Springs heated sandwiches on Sourdough buns), Zarda BBQ and Dairy, FunHouse Pizza(of Course)(Dark. Video- Games,Electonic Riding Bull and 25-cent Taco night) Annes Sante Fe.

Keep in mind I never see these anymore living in Georgia.

There was a Pizza Inn on Raytown Rd right by that Marvin's Gardens place. There also used to be a little seafood place down the street from there, nextdoor to the day old bread store, called Neptunes Galley. My folks liked that place.

My roommate and I used to go to that place and get all-you-can-eat boiled shrimp, corn on the cob and potatoes.

I'll admit that I'm not reading through over 65 pages now to see if anyone mentioned the Dish in Liberty that closed a few years ago? And does a place that was only open for a few years, and has only been closed for a couple of years count? If so I'm throwing Chicken Mac N Cheese out there as well

This is a CoMo special but I miss Alexanders that was in the Biscayne Mall. Alexanders was a steak house that you picked your steak and cooked it yourself. Huge ass grill and just a fun time. They would cook it for you for no extra charge but most people where up there grilling.

That was a fun place. They had a chain of that kind of grill-it-yourself steakhouses in Texas called UR Cooks. I don't know if it still exists, but probably not. The one I used to go to is gone.

I never had there deep dish pizza but I ate many times there for the lunch buffet while working Liberty mapping for their GIS department. That cracker crust thin they served was excellent.

I prefer the tavern style cracker crust. That's what I always ordered there. But my friend's Chicago Style they ordered, and I tried it. It wasn't bad, and I prefer NY if I can't have thin. I didn't know that they had a lunch buffet. I'll bet it would've been worth taking a half day of work to make the drive up there to have had it

You never had the deep dish pizza at Dish? I never even knew they had a cracker crust thin pizza. In any event, if you want to try the deep dish, they're sold in the frozen foods section of your local KC grocery store and they're pretty good, IMO.
