'85 Bears had a much better defense than offense, but they actually had a very solid offense with Sweetness and McMahon, no question about it. They were just in the league at the wrong time -- the Redskins, Giants and Niners had AWESOME teams at the same time they had an awesome team.

I moved to Missouri in 1990 and started watching the Chiefs. Before that I was in the northwest and kind of followed the Seahawks of Largent and Curt Warner but never got into them much. Those early 90s teams caught my attention and caused me to be a lifelong Chiefs fan even though I left the area 3 short years later.
For this reason, it is defense that gets my juices flowing. Stop the run and have an unstoppable running game is my favorite. It saddens me that it seems to have a limited place in todays NFL. |

If KC played Denver in the AFC Championship game, I would be happier if the final play was a bonecrunching sack of Peyton Manning rather than a TD run by Charles.

I tend to focus on both the offensive and defensive lines. I love the battle upfront, the grunt work if you will.

I love both sides of the ball, but if I was building a team I'd want a dominate defense combined with a dominate running game.
I want to control the game. Examples of this were the 2010 Chiefs, and the 2012 49ers |

Think you meant dominant.

I'd have to go offense. Although a great defense gets my jimmy in a semi, there's nothing like the emotion I feel when we score a TD. I was alive during the 90's defense days, but really got into football during Vermeil's time so maybe that has something to do with it.
I can just say, with that 02-05 offense, we had a shot in EVERY game no matter what. If we started off slow and got down two TDs, didn't matter. Ended up negative in the turnover ratio, didn't matter. No deficit was insurmountable. Our offenses lately have been putrid and I ****ing hate it. I feel like, with our defense playing to it's potential, we have a shot in every game- but only to keep it close. I don't ever expect to win games because I have abosultely zero faith in our offenses ability to put points on the board. We are so extremely pathetic it makes me sick. I long for the days of 42-39 shootouts over these 10-3 losses. |

Interestingly, I enjoy playing defense far more during pick-up games.

Balance/Defense....
Even if it means low scoring. 3 yards and a cloud of dust.......Bad ass mother****ers in the trenches...Hits. Being able to actually come up with a defense that works, even without a team full of pro bowlers.

Sitting on the couch, watching on TV, I like offense. Much more fun to see the acrobatics.
BUT, if I'm at Arrowhead, WOW...nothing gets a crowd wound up like the firestorm that supports a dominant defense. FIrst of all, you get to be part of the action by intimidating the other side with noise. Second, the crowd noise is simply louder behind the defense, because an offense gets thrown off if you try to scream. During the 90's, with DT and Neil Smith backed by a string of great corners, offenses just withered in Arrowhead. I still remember the Bills game in '97 when the crowd noise just demolished the Bills offense on the goal line. Hell, it was so loud for 4 consecutive downs I couldn't think strait--and I was in the stands. What it must have been like on the field is simply insane. |

I came up as a fan in the 90's and watching Derrick Thomas change and dominate games made me a defensive fan.
Big hits, turnovers, and my favorite game-changing play... the sack and strip. I love that. I think if a team wants to be a contender they need both though... I simply enjoy watching a good defense more than a good offense. I loved the Giants/49ers game last year. |
