Erin Andrews wants to get her smile back.

After a tough and emotionally draining year during which she helped catch a stalker who invaded her privacy, the 31-year-old ESPN sports reporter wants to get her life back. So she has signed on for the next round of "Dancing With the Stars," which begins March 22 on ABC.

Her father, Steve Andrews, investigative reporter for News Channel 8, says it will be a chance for his daughter to have fun and put a bad year behind her.

He says he and his wife, Paula, hope their daughter can make it through the first few rounds. "Erin loves dancing, and if she advances, she will be able to spend more time with her sister, Kendra, who lives in Los Angeles," he says.

Kendra, who is four years younger, is a professional dancer and actress who moved to Hollywood in the fall. "I am so excited that Erin is doing this because we grew up together taking dancing lessons," Kendra says. "I know she will be great on 'Dancing With the Stars.'"

Both sisters went to Bloomingdale High School. Erin went to the University of Florida, where she was on the Dazzlers dance team for basketball games. She majored in broadcasting and covered the Tampa Bay Lightning for the Sunshine Network before joining ESPN in 2004.

Last year she unknowingly was videotaped through a door peephole while she was changing clothes in a hotel room.

A man followed her to hotels as she traveled for ESPN. Nude photographs were posted on the Internet. She helped police catch the man by being able to determine an exact date, location and time of one of the tapings. The man, who has pleaded guilty, is scheduled to be sentenced next week.

"She did nothing wrong. She was the victim here, and she helped catch him," Steve Andrews says. He adds that she was asked to be on "Dancing" last year but put it off because of all that was happening. "She's been in seclusion for months, and now she wants to put that behind her," he says. "She wants to get her smile back."

Erin Andrews told TV columnist Jay Bobbin on Tuesday that she almost turned down the offer from "Dancing With the Stars," but "my sister and my parents were like, 'Why are you hiding? This is something you've wanted to do. If you want to, go do it.'"

She said she thought of letters from stalking victims and video-voyeurism victims who urged her to keep fighting because she is in the national spotlight.

"If I turned my back on this opportunity, what kind of example would I be for other women who have been victims?" she said. "I'm tired of continuing to be victimized by people who say I deserved this. I am getting involved with several support groups, and I can only help bring more awareness with this platform."

Andrews will be teamed with professional dancer Maksim Chmerkovskiy. She faces competition from former "Baywatch" babe Pamela Anderson, astronaut Buzz Aldrin, reality stars Kate Gosselin and Jake Pavelka, former "90210" co-star Shannen Doherty, gold medal figure skater Evan Lysacek, Pussycat Dolls singer Nicole Scherzinger, football star Chad Ochocinco and actors Aiden Turner and Niecy Nash.

GAME SHOW: Lakeland resident Miranda Sloan, a graduate academic adviser at the University of South Florida, is a contestant at 4:30 p.m. today and Thursday on "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" on WTSP, Channel 10.
