I dunno, I actually like the Star Trek scores. *shrug*

Williams has been mostly ripping himself off for the last 10 years anyway. The Episode II score was dreadful.

Another thing: Williams hasn't scored anything in 3 years. I wonder if that will be a problem.

Some directors want a temp score and others don't. Temp scores work for directors that aren't good with music score, so they trust their music supervisors and music editors.

But to put a temp score in a John Williams scored film is just ridiculous, IMO, because what happens then is that John will be expected to score it with the same rhythm, tempo, instrumentation and feel as the temp score, whereas he might have scored the scene completely different and of course, completely awesome.

I think this is a recipe for disaster.
I would like to think that J.J. just isn't dumb enough to NOT let John do his thing. It saddens me to learn this is how he does shit.

Sing the main melody, then get back to me.

The Phantom Menace was absolutely incredible. It will be studied for years.

Attack of the Clones is an exactly perfect reference. George was so busy in re-shoots and in post to create something watchable that Ben Burtt actually compiled the score from previous Star Wars films, then had John Williams "Fill in the blanks".

It's embarrassing.

If any of the stuff that Clay posted is true, it's truly embarrassing and it completely explains why LOST started off so incredibly awesome, immediately lost interest and turned everything over to Lindleoff and Cuse, who proceeded to ruin it all.

Mission Impossible III pales in comparison to Ghost Protocol and I just hope that VII isn't a gigantic tease for VIII.

I totally trust Rian Johnson, BTW. The dude is brilliant.

Haha. Well, that's a good argument indeed.

However, Lucas had a temp track for the original Star Wars full of Holst's Planets...so wait and see?

But George was smart enough to let "Johnny" do his thing.

That was the rumor but today, he was only announced for VIII.

I'm sure they're in a "Wait and See" mode. I still can't believe they chose May 26, 2017, especially after all of the issues they've had with VII.

Iger is extraordinarily impatient.

Oh and non-Star Wars related: Iger announced Frozen 2 today but I've heard from reliable sources it could take 5 years before it's released, as they have no concept at this point in time.

I heard about that. Why announce the movie now when it is so far from even going in production?

If you need a temp score, you're probably not much of a storyteller.

The music is the icing. If you can't think, imagine, and work without it, that's on you.

Well unfortunately, the temp score is more common than not these days. While it's great for Music Editors, who get paid handsomely to create the temp score based on the Director's notes, it's not so fun when a director falls in love with the temp score, then hires a composer to "re-create" it.

Even the best film composers in the world quit or are fired for "Creative Differences", which 9 times out of 10 mean that they didn't follow the temp score.
