***Ask Lonewolf Ed Anything Thread***

Lonewolf Ed was given some bad news recently. While he is going to be busy kicking some butt, I thought this would be a good chance for us to get to know more about our friend.

We are mostly an anonymous group of strangers, for the most part, but sometimes its nice to humanize this place and get some value out of these relationships.

So ask away! Let's get to know his views on life, his funny stories, his firsts, his favorites... there are no rules, except for the ones he makes.

Here's to Ed!

My doctor said she can't cure it, only prolong my life and in the best case scenario, 3 years. I don't know what the quality of it will be but that is a huge factor for me.

Overall, it was well below par. I got to my appointment to get a port put in me at 1 pm. I sat and waited for almost an hour in a room after the initial sign in stuff. Then after they took me to get prepped, it was 2 hours before they took me in to the procedure room. While they prepped me, the first guy took pity on me and shaved two spots on my back where some leads were stuck to me. He had to go and someone else took over and just slapped four more on my back. Then I saw a kid, maybe 7 or 8, being wheeled by on whatever they call those beds and it my heart just sank. The tubes, his little face looking so worn, and the parents and grandparents wracked with worry following behind, it was so sad to see.

My procedure went well, but the prep they had to do there was to shave my chest. The electric shaver had a tough time and the doc said my chest hair was like steel wool. I said I come from Viking stock and they all laughed. The stuff they pumped in me didn't knock me out, just made it so I couldn't feel pain. It also made the ceiling slide back and forth, but that must have just been my eyes going goofy. In the recovery area, a nurse had to take the leads off my back and the first two where the kind soul shaved this poor beast popped right off. The last ones, the nurse was saying "sorry! sorry! sorry!" over and over. I gripped the sides of the bed and rode it out.

Now the incision area where the port is located is pretty darned sore. That is to be expected, though. I can't lift more than 5 lbs. for at least a week, and they said not to raise my right arm even as high as my shoulder. When I swallow or say something like, "mmm hmmm," it hurts a bit and I can feel that tube stuck in a vein my neck. They say I will be happy to have the port with all the needles that are going to be coming at me starting Thursday.

Aside from that, it was a gorgeous day around KC. The trees are all so lush and green and I tried to smile a little about that.

I understand. But don't give up. A lot can change (treatment opportunities) in 3 years, and everyone reacts to treatment differently. I know quite a few people with Stage 4 cancer who are still here even though they were told they wouldn't be....

I hope that second guy gets his nipples chewed off someday. Gotta respect the hair pull, man. Have mercy.

I miss KC this time of year; after tornado season for the most part, everyone's buzzing about the chiefs, and the bitter cold of winter hasnt set in.

I quit my job in 2010, but filled in a few times. I did so to take care of my elderly parents on the 10 acres so they wouldn't have to sell and do the nursing home thing. Now they are having to take care of me again. I am so glad my brother was able to drive out from Colorado and stay for a while.

I hear you. How do you fill your days, when not looking out for your parents? Taking care of the land/property and stuff?

I'm from the Olathe/OP area as well. 10 acres?! You guys must be pretty far south.

I worked in a liquor store as a delivery driver/assistant manager. I was the guy who had to work the evening shift when someone didn't show. It happened more often than I cared for it to happen. I really hated it when they'd pull that stunt on a Saturday. I worked in-store by myself then from 9 am to 3 pm, so getting stuck there until 11 pm never made me happy, even with overtime. It cut out significant time from my weekend, since I worked Tuesdays to Saturdays.

I worked some on the side with a friend who is a handy man. I needed to learn how to do those fix ups on a house anyhow, so that was good to learn from Rod. I was tending the property doing stuff like mowing all ten acres, house maintenance and repairs, cooking dinners, laundry, gathering firewood, pruning the trees, that sort of stuff. I'm west of town just outside the city limits.

Are there any beers from Northern California that you cant get out there that you might wanna try?

My short list of suggestions:

Anderson Valley Oatmeal stout (if you enjoy stouts, its the best I have had)

Bear Republic - Red Rocket

Lagunitas , Little Sumpin or IPA

Anderson Valley Boont Amber

Russian River - Pliny the younger (feb. only i believe) or elder, or anything else by them..

Ace Cider Company out of Sebastopol - Joker or maybe Berry (yes not beer but god damn so delicious)

Hopland - Red Tail

Or anything else around Sonoma/Mendocino/Napa county?

I'd be happy to ship you anything thats tough to get out there thats on your list
