Future Football Helmet Design
Utilizing our product design, user experience, and brand identity chops–Gridiron Labs built a design case study imagining how the football helmet could evolve into a prolific wearable device by the year 2030. What follows is a design case study for how the industry may use new technologies, materials, and manufacturing to enhance player performance & comfort, elevate NFL and team brands to new heights, and engage fans in exciting new ways.

I think it would be cool at lower levels to have a heads up display to make the game easier and safer but turn off aids (aids lol) at higher levels of play.

Concussion sensors would be a bit problematic...

Heads Up Display could get rookies on the field sooner... The playbook is right in front of their eyes...

They should electrify the facemask so when an opponent grabs it they get tasered. Should make it fun!

HUD would be cool until certain teams steal the signal that transmits to the helmets.

Cool looking design, I don't know about all those sharp edges on the face mask though.

Don't like the hud/face shield and would find it distracting as a player. While the on-screen display may be advantageous at getting plays in, that would have to turn off at the beginning of the play to be useful. I just don't find it to be a good idea.
I like a more integrated and better facemask design, but agree with Buzz about the sharpness of the edges. It looks nice in concept, but would not want to be a player getting his fingers caught in that. It'd be more like a meat grinder. The cameras are kind of cool, as are impact sensors. Not a fan of the noise filter. Might as well play the games in a box and only have TV viewers. I think the concept does nothing to show or improve upon flexible cushioning and g-force reduction to aid in reducing head trauma, which I think should be the primary focus of any new design. Basically, they made a cool looking helmet that has fancy gadgets. Big shit. |

Player safety is crucial. I don't know that I buy that absorption technology will solve it. If helmets are comfortable, players will just hit harder.
These helmets look slick. But I don't want robots playing football. I don't helmets that drown out crowd noise, give you scouting reports, etc.... What fun is that? If the player isn't smart enough to know that without technology he doesn't belong on the field. |

Looks like something you would wear in a motorbike race or dirt bike race not so much football.
I do think it looks cool though. |
