Alex Smith will throw 25 Tds to Wide Receivers this year

Chiefs | Alex Smith being asked to go deep

Sun, 07 Jun 2015 19:37:53 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs QB Alex Smith has been asked to take more shots down the field this season. "I like where Alex is," offensive coordinator Doug Pederson said. "But now in the spring, we want to see any quarterback shoot the ball down the field and at least test it. That gives him the comfort level the next time he's in that situation."

Fantasy Tip: Whether or not Smith will be effective throwing the ball down the field remains to be seen, but with Jeremy Maclin in town to provide a deep threat, just taking an occasional shot should help free up Jamaal Charles a bit more.

Chiefs | De'Anthony Thomas preparing for new role

Sun, 07 Jun 2015 17:15:46 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs WR De'Anthony Thomas has shed weight in order to maximize his speed as he transitions from running back to wide receiver. "I just got a lot stronger and I feel like I'm good right now where I'm at," Thomas said. "I weigh about, probably, 167."

We better have a major OL improvement.

I totally agree. Alex Smith will throw at least 25 TDs to wideouts. On my Chiefs team on Madden '16

I'm arguing it. Every mother ****ing team team has drops but true fans only notice their team when they drop the ball. Just like when Alex gets pressured its the horrid OL. When we get a sack or have 3 guys in the backfield and sack the QB its awesome.

Everyone elses OL is amazing ours sucks, every other team never drops a pass only ours. Its interesting their mind is only able to work in this binary way.

it seems to me that Alex was a little bit more of a long ball thrower in his first season, then it went away last year. I know the guy's not a mad bomber, but as I remember it, he threw more long balls his first year. Something changed last season for sure. I'm not sure just adding Maclin will fix everything, but he's thrown long passes successfully before, it's just not his MO.

Maclin alone won't, no...and it's highly likely he will ever be the mad bomber.

But

Maclin will provide Alex a big time dependable deep threat and when Alex had Avery, he had no problem going deep to him consistently.

Albert Wilson is a guy Alex trusted to throw deep to as last year winded down. 209 yards in the last 3 games is evidence of that. Spread over the course of 16 games that an 1100 yard season.

Then you figure in Thomas and Conley as other deep threats and you are gonna see a lot of opportunities for deep passing in 2015 and beyond.

I don't care about the TD argument or who scores the TDs. Just wanted to say that Maclin is far superior in creating separation from defenders.

This means he will have a better chance to not only burn a DB deep and take it the distance.. but he can also turn a 10 yd drag into a long TD.

Bowe rarely created separation.. which means a defender was right in his hip pocket.. which means the defender had a greater chance of making a tackle for minimal gain.. or other defenders had an easier time converging at the proper angles to stop YAC.

Maclin's precision routes and ball tracking are also far superior to Bowe's. This matters greatly in Reid's WCO, and will give Alex a much stronger trust to let it rip.

heh...25 TD passes? Hell, I'll take 25 ATTEMPTS down field more than 20 yards even if they're all incomplete.

At least it will stretch the defense a little.

Enough with the straw man BS.

Our oline (specifically LG) was not good at all last year. I would bet that they ranked near the bottom. There have been significant upgrades to that unit in the off season. If those pan out then there is no doubt that we should see a lot of improvement in the passing game. Maclin is better for this offense than Bowe and hopefully the young WRs will make an impact as well. 25 TDs to WRs is a stretch and no, I'm not buying it. But I do see 10-15 being realistic with another 10-15 to TEs/RBs.
