Bill Snyder was 69 when he returned to K-State

Who would have thought that a 69 year old coach could come out of retirement and immediately rebuild his former team back to their former glory days? I know I didn't think he could do it.

What Bill Snyder did at K-State was amazing when he was originally hired back in 1989, and it's equally amazing that he could duplicate that success when he came back in 2009. He never won the national championship, but I think the K-State fans are pretty happy he came back to try again.

Someone else is 69 right now.

Just sayin.

Marty has a short shelf life so there's no chance he'd be here 10 years. Maybe 5.

Hell, I wouldn't be pissed, and I'll tell you why... Marty knows how to build teams and he knows how to get to the playoffs. Does he struggle to win there? Obviously that is well known.

However Marty turns bad teams into teams that win. After 4-5 years he'd ride off into the sunset and as long as we don't 'Norv Turner' our coach selection we'll be positioned to win for a while.

Still, the best path would just be hiring a good coach who can transform the team and coach for 10+ years and give this team some needed stability.

You have to be seriously reeruned to entertain the notion that a guy who will be 70 next September is going to come here and fix this franchise.

Did we learn nothing from hiring Romeo Crennel's old, soon-to-be-retired ass?

Do you know your football or not? Martha didn't win 5 playoff games during his failed.run in kc.

He beat the raiders in 91 and Montana forced him to 2 wins 93. Other than that. Nadda damn thing was won.

Marty can just be an interim GM/HC for this year with the understanding we are going another way for next year.

That is the most I could accept.

If you hire Marty you will also need a "Playoff Coordinator" as well.

You completely missed the point. Fixing franchises is what Marty is a genius at, and he does it very quickly. Bill Snyder has proven pretty conclusively that it CAN be done at that age.

You have to be seriously reeruned to compare Romeo Crennel to Marty Schottenheimer.

Snyder is doing it even better the 2nd time around much quicker because of his rep, with an actual chance to win the Nat'l Championship because he has a legit Nat'l Championship caliber team to do it with.

Excuse me for saying 5 when I should have said 3.

It doesn't change the fact that Schottenheimer took over a team that was far worse than the team we have right now. He immediately turned it into a team that had 9 consecutive winning seasons, making the playoffs 7 of those 9 years.

Would I have liked more playoff wins and a Super Bowl or two? Yes. Do I think a couple of those 13-3 teams choked in the playoffs? Yes. Was I infuriated when Marty chose to start Grbac over Gannon against Denver in the 1997 playoff game. Yes.

But to refer to that as a "failed run in KC" is simply reeruned. The Scott Pioli regime is the failed run in KC. The Chiefs were relevant and exciting when Marty was the head coach. Today they are pathetic and completely irrelevant.

I bet if Clark Hunt fired Pioli and offered Marty a job as either head coach or GM or some type of consultant, Marty would accept it without hesitation.

Marty was on the radio here recently. He was on Kietzman's show if my memory serves me correctly. He seemed incredibly wistful about his time in KC. He said multiple times that he made a huge mistake leaving KC. Honestly sounded like he was on the verge of tears. (Also sounded like he may have had a couple of drinks before the interview)

Right now I'd take it. Being runner-up beats the hell out of having the worst record in the NFL.

Oh, and K-State would crush your beloved Huskers if they played them. Luckily for the Huskers they ran away from the Big 12.
