It's worth mentioning again: This Game Is Our Season

While much of CP has checked out on 2014, it's important to remember that the Chiefs ultimately rely on no one but themselves to get into the playoffs. If they lose one game over the next two weeks, they're out. But if they win, they not only will be in, they will have beaten all their competitors to get there (Bills, Dolphins, Steelers, Chargers 2 x's) -- that would be utterly astounding. Not only did most of us project a sub-.500 season (I projected 7-9), this hypothetically 10-win team could very easily have been 12-wins if not for slamming its own dick in the two drawers of Oakland and Nashville.

That being said, the following things absolutely must happen for the Chiefs to win -- and I should know, because I post here instead of working on Reid's coaching staff:

1. Start Vance Walker as the top DE over Allen Bailey. Walker is tons better against the run than Bailey is, who is just getting erased in the run game this year. You also don't lose a ton of passrushing either, as Walker is plenty talented in that department.

2. Play Fleming over Owens as the #3 CB. Owens has given us everything he's got, but Fleming is looking like another bargain bin finding by Dorsey at the CB position. His ability to track receivers and change directions fluidly is going to be sorely needed against Marcus Wheaton and Antonio Brown.

3. Play Avant as the #2 WR, and Wilson as your #3. You can't trust Avant to make plays for us for a whole year, but we can sure expect him to make plays for a couple weeks. Avant is perfect for this offense and can threaten deep. Wilson has performed extremely well, especially considering the Cardinals' secondary is one of the league's best. He's giving us 3-4 receptions a week.

4. Bring back the three TE set. The entire offense went off track when Harris went down and we abandoned the three TE sets, which Smith clearly loves. Anthony Sherman can play as the third TE, or even better, get Gordon involved -- he clearly outplayed Harris in the preseason.

5. Start Linkenbach. For the love of all that is holy. Friends don't let friends play McGlynn.

6. Play Hammond over Thomas at punt returner. Frankie Hammond has been an excellent returner when Thomas has either been injured or benched, and doesn't make Thomas' weekly bone-headed decisions with the ball. The Chiefs aren't going to win by striking out hoping to hit a home run -- which has been Thomas' MO this year. They're going to win by hitting singles and doubles, which Hammond can do.

Does it just seem that way, or do we actually move the ball when he mixes it up?

I'd prefer he went with the hot hand. There have been a few games this year in which Charles was averaging over 5 YPC and Andy didn't feed him more than 15 times. When your run game is that effective you need to keep tapping that well.

Charles has been facing 8 man boxes since we drafted him.

The Steelers defense has given up the most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks this year.

Alex Smith...it's time for you to go out there and play the game of your life.

If he were truly committed to it, yes he could... double tight ends plus Sherman, jumbo packages minus Sherman, full house sets with Charles, Davis and Thomas.

Andy isnt being as creative as he could be, period.

When they start getting sick of being run over, then you start in with the play action to Bowe and Kelce, then you fake a PA and do a sweep with Thomas... there are sooo many things we've seen Reid do occasionally and then totally forget. He can be brilliant at times, motioning guys all over the damn place then go PA to Bowe etc.

Reid gets stuck in ruts of his own making... he has all of those nifty plays on his sheet yet somehow forgets to call them. One thing we havent seen is a Full House backfield, MY GOD... think of all the options one would have with that group.

Charles, Davis and Thomas all back there motioning around... talk about scaring the shit out of a defense, who are they going to focus on? any one of those three can take it home on you... Reid simply isnt creative enough with what he has.

Did you miss his 80 yard return, Sunday?
You mean his one good return of the season where he literally ran in a straight line and wasnt even close to getting touched because the blocking was so good?

This X 10000000000000000000

Reid is a great motivator but an atrocious play caller, especially when playing from behind.

Be pissy somewhere else. At least Thomas as a TD. Hammond has squat.

Teams that are beating you don't care if you run for yards they play safe coverage cause big pass plays are probably the only way to come back.

I think there's a classic Freudian slip in there.

Putting 8 men in the box doesn't stop people from running on us.

Huh?

This is a two man combo. There IS NO "him and the other guy".
