San Diego Tips?

Taking the family to San Diego for a week long vacation in June. Any tips for the trip? Already planning on SeaWorld, LEGOLAND, Zoo, and USS Midway. Anything other recommendations for what to see or do?

Oh if you wanna see a really, really nice aquarium, then Birch Aquarium is really good. They have amazing displays there and lots of fun hands on on events for the kids. Better Aquarium than what SeaWorld has to offer. http://aquarium.ucsd.edu/

If you want Beaches, the best beaches are in north county. Everything north from LaJolla and south of Camp Pendelton.

A lot of people like Mission Bay (the beaches around SeaWorld), but i think they're over populated.

Don't go any further south than Mission Beach for beaches. They're all shit. LaJolla and above imo for the best beaches.Though a lot of people like Coronado as well. I'm personally not a huge fan.

Basically, just tell me what you like and I'll tell you where to go. San Diego is a major tourism city, and unlike Vegas, there's a helluva lot more to do than just stay in one area.

What do you like? Salt water fishing? Fresh Water fishing? Mountains? Deserts? Theme Parks? Museums? Night Life? Beaches? Something Romantic? Like heading to the lighthouse during the sunset and overlooking San Diego's Skyline? You like Piers and Jetties?

You can rent Jet Ski's.....or you can rent Quads and go off-roading. Whatever it is that you think you wanna do, you can probably do it down here.

Just wanna drive and tour the county? Route 101 is a legendary scenic tour right off the ocean. The embodiment of SoCal, driving down the coast, checking out hot ass females in bikinis with the fresh ocean breeze blowing in your hair....

Hot Air balloon ride overlooking the ocean, maybe? Touring a vineyard?

Ah, Old Town. You can visit the Whaley House, which is an old "haunted" house. http://www.whaleyhouse.org/

I don't know the age(s) of your children but Lego Land was completely overrated, IMO. I took my then 7 year old last summer and the majority of the attractions are for 3-5 year olds, not 7 or above. The food choices are weak and we got through the entire park in 7 hours (and that was with spending more than an hour in the lazy river ride in the water park).

Definitely do not expect a Disneyland experience.

Speaking of that, depending on where you're staying, Disney can be anywhere from 60-90 minutes away and with California Adventure and the new Star Wars attractions (the new park isn't open but they've made many changes for a great Star Wars experience), I'd highly recommend that over Lego.

We've boycotted SeaWorld, which really isn't that big of a deal because IMO, it sucks ass. I'd rather go to the Long Beach Aquarium 10 times out of 10 versus Sea World. I haven't been to the SD Aquarium but I wouldn't be surprised if it's similar to Long Beach.

I've never heard anything good about Legoland, other than it's mostly targeted for very young children. Considering the price of admission, i've always elected to just take the drive to Disneyland considering the ticket prices are very close.

The shark exhibit is really cool. I haven't seen the whale show since the whole Blackfish thing. It USE to be pretty cool. No idea what it's like now.

We did a harbor cruise there a while back. If you're a coastal person it's probably not a big deal, but if you live inland it's moderately interesting.

I can't even imagine paying full price ($100+) per person to ride those hideous rides. Fortunately, I had a 2-For-1 coupon with my Lego Movie purchase, so it only cost $100 instead of $200.00.

It's an infected pimple on the ass of Disneyland.

You can drive to the border and throw Chiclets at the little Mexican kids. That's always fun.
