Tonight I dusted off my copy of Madden 2008 for the PC, grabbed an updated roster and off we go!

First order of business: simulate the 2015 season. Stop worrying. Everything is fine.

Chiefs Midseason Report

Analysis: the second half is favorable with 5 of 8 at home. If the Chiefs can hold serve against the AFCW at home they should be in good shape. If not, look out, because that 3-3 conference record isn't good.

Chiefs first-half MVP: RB Jamaal Charles. He leads the NFL with 773 rushing yards on 156 carries (1 TD). Add in his his receiving (38-370-5) and he's on pace for a ridiculous 2,286 yards from scrimmage. That's a yard shy of the record Priest Holmes set in 2002. I'm going to abuse Charles because he's being traded after this season most likely (depending on draft prospects). Can the Chiefs ride this pony to the Super Bowl?

Runner up: WR Chris Lamont. Yes, he has 19 ****ing drops. No one else is even close. He also leads the NFL with 770 receiving yards on 45 catches, with 5 TD. He averages 8.1 yards after the catch. That's ****ing insane, and the next closest WR, Calvin Johnson, trails him by TWO YARDS. Without LaDrop, the Chiefs are 3-5 probably.

Best FA signing: RT Austin Howard After a terrible preseason, he stopped drinking and has allowed only 3 sacks (2 of which came against Khalil Mack).

Least valuable player: CB Marcus Peters The toasty and crispy for a new generation. He leads the NFL in catches allowed, with 33. Benched at halftime of the Buffalo game, can he get his starting job back? He's on a short leash.

BIG SHOCK: Despite being 20th in passing yards, Alex Smith leads the league in Pro Bowl votes. Aw yeah. Suck it haters.



Next up: Chargers. Jeremy Maclin remains doubtful.

Week 9: Chargers @ Chiefs

Philip Rivers comes to Arrowhead! Surely this will work out for the Chiefs 32 Defense (technically they're 27th in points allowed but who's counting). The loser of this game will be in last place in the hotly contested AFC West.

Ron Parker is our new starting CB. Technically his coverage is way better than Peters, but the result is the same. I'm sure that 33-yard Stevie Johnson gain is just a fluke though.

Apparently Peters has a disease and it's spreading. Sam Shields makes a great play on the ball and...the Chargers get a huge gain. 24-7 Chargers.



Right before halftime the Chargers attempt a hail mary. Peters commits pass interference on the play. They get another FG. They receive the second half kickoff and go on a soul-crushing drive that basically puts the game out of reach at 34-7.

At this point I yank Alex Smith and Jamaal Charles. Garrett Grayson comes in and for the first time all year, a Chiefs QB throws a pass over 35 yards. Yay! Chris Lamont celebrates being down 41-14.



The comeback ends there because Garrett Grayson is not accurate.

So yeah, I lose 50 to 20. At home. Ouch. I am now on the outside looking in to the playoffs. But I'm still only a game out of first in the AFC West. And next week I get to face this turd! The 32 Defense is totally gonna stop him! Also, holy shit, the Saints have the worst collection of QBs ever.

Bye week adjustments:

Chiefs scrap defensive playbook. I've been running a custom hybrid 4-3/3-4 I created years ago. Apparently it doesn't work too well with a roster that's not loaded with All-Pros. I'll now use the standard 3-4 playbook.

Justin Houston moves back to LOLB, Dee Ford will play ROLB. It seems like a lot of long runs are coming to Ford's side, and I typically control the ROLB or FS. Hopefully now Houston will lock down strong side runs and I can better control the weakside.

Chiefs sign Cortland Finnegan. He's 32 and slow, but at least he has 86 AWR. For now he's a backup at FS and CB. If things don't improve...who knows...

Progression point hit. Peters actually picked up 2 points of AWR for god knows what reason. Ron Parker DECLINED, although he's still 1 point higher than Peters. But I may as well start Peters at this point. **** it.

Bring on the 'Aints! The AFC West is still within reach!

Jeremy Maclin is probable, but given the situation...I'm not risking him with an injury rating of 71. He remains on the bench for one more week.

First possession Alex throws an incredibly stupid, underthrown pass into double coverage and MegaDrop turns it into a TD. Go figure!



Now I want you to meet Thad Lewis. The first sign that he wasn't a good QB was the fact he faces the wrong way at the end of his drops.

Another weird thing about the Saints game.

So I didn't play Maclin the entire game. The Saints attempt an onside kick with 48 seconds left and guess who is on the hands team? Yep, Maclin.

I didn't even know it, so of course he wasn't subbed out. HE GETS HURT. Thankfully it didn't last beyond the game. Could have really been shitty, though.

Week 11: Raiders @ Chiefs

This is it, gents. Latavius Murray ran for 250 yards on the 32 Defense last time out. If the Chiefs stop him today, they will be in first place in the division. If not...they are back on the outside looking in to the playoff race.

The Chiefs have a plan though. They have a new defensive playbook. They have Cortland Finnegan. And they have a SECRET WEAPON.

This is LB Austin Bennett. He is just a rookie. But whichever team drafted him was incredibly stupid, or incredibly broke, because he's just sitting in FA waiting to be claimed. 6-3, 243, 86 SPD, 89 ACC, 79 STR, 87 AGI, 67 CAT, 88 TACK. BEAST.

Bennett is perfect for my gameplan: I will move him to strong safety, but he won't be leaving the box. Essentially, I'm going to play a 3-5 on every snap, unless I think the Raiders are going to pass. And with my true rookie SS now playing FS (83 TACK), and Tamba Hali replacing Dee ford on run downs, my lineup is filled with run defenders.

The Raiders might beat me, but I will be damned if Murray will:

I do move the ball, though. However, a promising opening drive ends when Earl Thomas absolutely DESTROYS Jamaal Charles, making him fumble. Good god ALMIGHTY. Nice signing, Raiders.



Shockingly, the Raiders throw three straight passes to start the game. Even more shockingly, Marcus Peters stops them. Here he is defending a pass intended for E. King.

I go up 3-0, but it should be 7-0. Alex badly underthrows a wide open Lamont. His pop gun arm is infuriating. Look at this shit. That's a TD and Lamont has to come back to the ball and cut off the DB.

Unfortunately, my offense is now bogging down. I can't run the ball for shit. The Raiders get a TD before halftime, and we're tied at 10. Still...Murray has 9 carries for 32 yards at halftime. This is working.

It's still 10-10 in the third quarter. After the Raiders back me up with a great punt to the 2, I miss a huge opportunity. I had Maclin wide open deep and threw the ball short. But when your QB is Alex, you tend to ignore deep receivers. ****.

At this point I actually put together a drive. Only for Alex to lead Kelce out of bounds on a potential TD. I'm ****ed.

Next week: the Chiefs have to go to Pittsburgh to face the 9-2 Steelers. Big Ben should easily rape the ever-loving shit out of Peters and the 32s.
