OTC: Chiefs should net 4 Compensatory Picks in 2017

Quote:
If the predictions from Over the Cap hold true, the Kansas City Chiefs will enjoy an extra four compensatory picks in the 2017 NFL Draft. The Chiefs are predicted to receive selection at the end of the 3rd round, 4th round and two in the 6th.

Remember that these losses reflect significant free agency departures from the team this season, so the acquisition of a compensation pick does come with a cost. Hence the definition of compensation. While the Chiefs re-signed a number of their own free agents, they also watched several players walk. Here's each loss with the predicted corresponding pick: Sean Smith, 3rd; Jeff Allen, 4th; Donald Stephenson, 6th; Tyvon Branch, 6th.

Those holes at cornerback and guard are still unsettled for the Chiefs, although John Dorsey has to hope that Andy Reid's coaching staff can take the developmental talent he's acquired and mold them into solid replacements.

In the past, compensatory picks were static, but the 2017 NFL Draft will be the first in which comp picks can be traded as any other asset. Again, if these predictions hold true, Dorsey will enjoy 11 [10] picks to move around the draft as he wishes, including 4 in the first 2 days of the draft.

this is how you win in the NFL. We let average players go for a cumulative $100 million dollars between them through FA, gather the comp picks and draft well.

Saved money from average players=elite contract for Houston, big contract to get Maclin and contracts for Parker and Bailey.

Follow up with Peters, Morse and flexibility from comp picks to trade up and get a nice #2 WR prospect for cheap.

Dorsey killing it.

The compensatory draft picks are great, but I would be curious to see a listing of the players teams have received with these picks and overall, what it's really done to those drafts. Denver should net two 3rds in the next draft - lots of ammo to work with there, whether it's picks or a trade up.
