I'm not even a basketball follower and it's hard to think about. I mean, a D1 Power 5 school is ranked 162nd in the nation. How in the hell does that happen? Missouri State is ranked 20 spots higher, for crying out loud.
They're in denial of what it's going to take to turn it around in a timely manner. Or they just don't have the cash. But at some point they're going to realize that it's going to take a really big name coach to attract great high school kids to "play for him", or announce that they'll hire somebody they hope might catch lightning in a bottle. Good luck with the latter because pretty much every good high school player is going to stay away from the program like a burning AIDS tree, because of the program.

It's just common sense...

You may already know this, but Sterk released a statement this week which said that he's aware of the attendance issues, wants to fix them, and that he doesn't make coaching changes mid-season.

It was the AD's way of saying, "I hear your complaints and I'm going to fire this mother****er in March, just be patient."

I know - third-party - that the largest individual booster in Missouri sports hasn't even bothered to open his suite at all this year, and stopped opening it a few games into conference play last year.

No catering.

No alcohol.

No one in there except an occasional guest.

That's telling.

I think they will be positioned well to hire a new coach and hope this AD is more competent at that than the last two.

Kevin Keatts, Frank Martin, Chris Holtmann, Pat Kelsey, Matt McCall... all guys who could right the ship quickly, IMO.

Martin is probably the biggest splash of that group. I think Keatts has the most upside (only concern personally is if is clear of the Louisville hooker scandal).

Agree, but when he goes shopping for a HC, they better go with a blank check. They're going to need to shock the college basketball world with the hire, shocked enough to send shock waves all the way to the high school ranks to get anything that's not already committed, and even more 5-star recruits the year after.

Calm down. The anchors on this AD are gone. Tim Wolfe isn't walking through that door, Mike Alden isn't walking through that door, and Mack Rhoades isn't walking through that door.

Keatts may not be the big name everyone wants but he'd turn the program around. Give him 3 years & we will be back in the NCAA tournament.

Calm down? What the heck? And I'm not worried about who's not walking through the door as much as who is. If it's another project we're screwed, again, until we get something close to an already-HOF coach. Somebody with enough star power to overcome the school's name, overall situation, and recent history.

Not doubting you because your sources are pretty good normally....but I don't understand Martin's name coming up. He seems to be in pretty good shape at South Carolina and is turning that program around so they would have no problem giving him the money to keep him there.

I don't see him leaving until P J Dozier heads to the NBA at the very soonest.

It will be a tough pull. Some think he's interested, some don't.

Ceiling at Mizzou would be higher for him than South Carolina. He's seen Mizzou at its best and knows SCAR's fanbase will never care about basketball at that level.

As long as it's a guy from my list (or someone like those guys) and not a dumb**** hire like Ben Jacobsen, I'll be happy.

In case complete apathy has set in, Mizzou lost to Arkansas yesterday (but they kept it within 20!!!!). Now that the sun is setting on the Kim Anderson era, will he get a true road win before he "resigns?" In 2.5 years, he has yet to win a true road game.

Question 2: Has the coach of a Power 5 team ever been winless on the road over a period of at least three years?

No, he won't.

And a brutal speculation I made after Year 1 looks assured to be true: Frank Haith won more games in Year 1 than Kim Anderson will win in 3.

Missouri will move on and hopefully make a good hire again, after back-to-back duds.

Thank you, Kim Anderson/Norm Stewart disciples/morons, for ensuring that the best crop of in-state talent since Rush and Hansbrough were in high school is going to go somewhere other than Mizzou.

With the right coach, Missouri would have had the inside track to signing these local kids:

SF Michael Porter (elite, top 5 consensus player)
C Jeremiah Tilmon (elite, top 20)
SG Jordon Goodwin (top 100)
PG Trae Young (elite, top 25)

That's the type of class Kentucky brings in every year, the type of class that put Michigan on the map in the early 90s.

And the 18 class offers the same type of awesome in the local pool...

top 20 national PG Courtney Ramey
top 50 PF Carteare Gordon
top 50 PF Jontay Porter

Just a goddamn disaster.

MIZZOU will need to shock the world with a big-name hire to stop the in-State talent from leaving. They tried the "take a chance and build a program" route, now it's time for a hire that'll have Moms and Dads, and high school coaches, telling their top talent that MIZZOU should be strongly considered. And the coach has to be a big enough name to command the respect of the players. IOW, the coach has to pretty-much be better at coaching than the players are at playing - that way they respect him and will do exactly what he says. Right now Kim is showing not awesome, doesn't have the player's respect, and they're all acting like it.

I don't know who that is, but the premise is no less valid. And if they're serious about turning the program around, the cost of that coach should be of little concern. There's simply no way to fix this program without paying the price.

I'd like to know where you got the idea Trae Young would lean Mizzou with a different coach.
