Awful in general. Sam Rockwell is the only redeeming quality to it.

Dude. If this had been rated R, maybe it would've been salvageable. Lots of cliches and it was basically a poor copy/paste. They tried to make it an edgy updated version by throwing in smartphones and shit. Oh and the CGI was questionable and way too much.

Quit remaking movies that were done right the first time. Remake movies that should have been good but weren't, like Scanners.

I mean is any Robin Hood movie going to stop The Adventures of Robin Hood with Errol Flynn and Basil Rathbone? Probably not. |

Looking back now the original was fairly tame to a lot of horror movies today but for its time it was spooky as hell. It was R rated and parents did not want their kids to see this. If it's PG-13 you're telling kids to go see this. It's no longer trying to be a very scary horror film, it's created for a different audience. They really missed an opportunity here. Had they kept this R, brought the scale of the events down to make it more realistic, and went more psychological than CGI I think it could have had a rebirth. I'm a huge Raimi fan but I doubt I see this. I have yet to really read anything positive about it.

Ummm.....No.. The original was rated PG. Although, It would most likely be rated PG-13 if it got re-rated roday. the PG rating was very broad in those days. Ironically, the PG-13 rating has become just as broad.

I thought I remembered a nude/sex scene with the mom in the original. Guess I need to watch it again. Now that I think about it I probably haven't watched it in a good 10 years...

Well, it's already made $26 million on a $35 million dollar budget, so it'll definitely earn after foreign receipts. That makes me happy for Gil, because it won't be viewed as a box office loser but I still go back to our initial conversation in which I basically told him it was a no win situation.
Too bad I was right. |
