Of 388 players in baseball with 90+ at-bats, Daniel Descalso is 385th in runs created.

I don't think that there are many of us that have a problem with the front office; it's pretty damned great. But goddamned if Matheny isn't a walking 'WTF' machine.

I can't comment. I hate the Cardinals and avoid them at all costs. However, ALL of my friends are Cardinals fans. All of them thought LaRussa was a terrible manager. As did this board. This was confusing to me.

Supposedly some of the regulars are Jay, Craig, Delcasco, Waino, Robinson and Ellis. These meetings are supposedly sometimes held in the locker room or another room off the locker room. Your personal beliefs are your own but, if true, WTF? Could you imagine a business allowing a partisan religious meeting in a conference room during the hours of operations?

I wasn't aware that David Price was a middle of the order bat.

If Matheny is going to **** up and jerk around Miller and OT what choice do we have? It's like what Larussa did to Rasmus all over again. That being said, all the rumor mill down here is that Price is staying. The Rays think they have a chance this year.

You think? Even if it has no effect on decision making, it could certainly seems to an outsider viewing it that it creates a potential conflict of interest.

I think we should stay put this year. This team has not proven that they deserve to mortgage some pieces of the future to make a run this year. Losing Molina was the final straw that crashed the year.

There isn't even a point to make deals like this at the deadline. With the way draft pick compensation is now allocated, teams want ridiculous hauls for guys you get two months out of. The Red Sox want a guy like Taveras or Joc Pederson along with other prospects for two months of Jon Lester. That's completely ****ing asinine.
If you want to trade for something, trade for a right-handed bench bat.

A two month rental of Lester for Taveras and Miller or Martinez level players is as you said.....asinine.

From STL today:
Matheny: Saturday's starter could come via trade? SAN DIEGO • The Cardinals will go with ace Adam Wainwright on Friday against Milwaukee and keep the righty on normal rest. To find their starter for Saturday, however, they are looking beyond their roster. The Cardinals will need a fifth starter for the first time in a couple weeks this Saturday against the Brewers, and while the team has outlined how a minor-leaguer could make that start or Carlos Martinez could shift back to the rotation for the day, manager Mike Matheny detailed this afternoon how the start could be an "external" option. That means via trade. "I think there’s always the possibility of anything could happen," Matheny said. "We’re talking about the fifth spot we have open. We could look at what happens to our bullpen, how we use guys. But this all comes down if anything happens externally. There are a lot of things that go into play." The Cardinals' interest in David Price has been well-documented, but there is a growing sense that the Rays are less likely to move their ace as they have climbed into the AL East race. Reports surfaced Monday that the Phillies would make Cole Hamels available at a steep price. The Cardinals are one of the few teams that has the prospects available to make such a deal. Hamels has $96 million remaining on his contract, and the Cardinals do have some payroll flexibility to add a core-style contract. The Cardinals are not a team that Hamels can block a trade to. The Phillies have a scout at Class AAA Memphis' game at Omaha tonight, where lefty Tyler Lyons is pitching. Philadelphia, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer and other outlets, are seeking a substantial package of prospects for Hamels. Outfielder Stephen Piscotty is a top prospect in the Cardinals system that fits the profile several teams are looking for at the deadline. Hamels pitched eight shutout innings for the Phillies tonight. The Phillies are also entertaining suitors for righty A.J. Burnett. He is scheduled to pitch on Saturday. In the past, the Cardinals have shown interest in acquiring players who they would have under control and they are reluctant to offer up chief prospects for a two-month rental. Jon Lester, the Boston Red Sox lefty, fits that description, as he's only under contract for the remainder of this season. That short-term addition has been unpalatable for the Cardinals when it comes to moving a top-tier prospect.
