2014 Gambling Challenge - Week 6

The betting windows are open for Week 6 wagering. We have a game Thursday night, so I'll post the odds for that one now. The rest I will post in a couple of days.

Please do me a favor and post your bets like the example below. Do not post "Chiefs points $1,000" or other variations. It makes it easier for me to locate the correct place in the spreadsheet to enter your bet if you do it like the example.

Thanks.

PLEASE read the rules here.

PLEASE READ, RULE CHANGE!! Beginning this year, I will no longer allow any bets to be changed or cancelled. Please make sure you have posted the correct bet before hitting the submit button! Once posted, it is binding and the only option you will have is to post an offsetting bet if you change your mind (which off course will cost you at a minimum the 10% house vig). NO EXCEPTIONS!!

Also, anyone caught editing a bet after posting it will be immediately disqualified!

Remember that you must place a wager every 3 weeks at minimum. If you go without betting for 3 consecutive weeks, you will be disqualified.

The following people must bet this week or be disqualified for violating this rule.

Jewish Rabbi
keg in kc
mnchiefsguy

Above all else, lets have some fun!

How to read the lines

Sample line

Thu 9/6 New Orleans Saints +6 +223 OVER 52.5
(Date, VISITING TEAM: Point Spread, Money Line, Over/Under)
7:30 PM Indianapolis Colts -6 -243 UNDER 52.5

(Time, HOME TEAM: Point Spread, Money Line, Over/Under)

How to bet the Money Line

Sample line
SAINTS +223
COLTS -243

First off, a money bet is a straight up win/lose bet. No points involved, so of course there are odds payoffs.

If you want to bet on the Saints, you will win $223 for every $100 that you bet. Conversely, for the Colts, you will win $100 for every $243 that you bet.

In other words, the team with the - money line is the favorite (therefore lower payout) and the team with the + is the under dog.

Placing Bets

PLEASE
, format your bets like this:

Colts (-6) $5000
Chiefs (+142 money) $1000
Chiefs/Texans (Under 38) $2000

I've noticed you and a couple of others doing this. I assume you are betting the extra 10% to make up for the house vig if you win. But it doesn't really work out like you think.

Your winning bet in this case pays $1980, not $2000. You would have to bet $2,222.222 to win exactly $2,000. But we don't deal in pocket change around here.

No big deal, you can continue to do it like this and maybe I'm wrong about your reason for doing so. Just trying to pass on some info.

Nope, that's why, and I knew it didn't work out to exactly $1000/2000/3000, etc, but it's close enough.
