His problem is work ethic. Spurrier gave him a less than stellar recommendation when it came to his practice habits. He will play this year and next then sign a mega deal and then Be a bum. He comes off like a guy that only wants money and doesn't really love football. He blew off his last year in college just to avoid injury which means his brain is also lacking.

Thanks for the correction.

I was just thinking this doesn't say much about his availability for week 1, it just says he isn't going to be ready for the start of camp.

There will be a slight delay in his being declared a bust, perhaps.

But without working at it, talent only gets you so far at this level.

Personally, I'll always wonder why they drafted him first overall to play in Romeo Crennels 2gap defense that asks it's OLBs to be in coverage a lot.

Clowney was 6'5, 255 as a senior in high school, rated as the nation's #1 overall player. He played lights out for a shitty South Carolina team until his final season, when he suffered various injuries.

As we've seen with Travis Kelce and others, microfracture surgery is no laughing matter.

I'd prefer to judge him by what he does in a full 16 game season, not consider him a bust because of a freak injury.

I guess it's a freak injury, since he landed in a hole in the Texans' stitched-together turf. But he had a sports hernia in 2013, was diagnosed with bone spurs in his ankle/ankles during the draft process, and apparently has recurrent foot issues.

In any event, the Texans were beyond idiotic to pass on Carr (2.1) or Bridgewater (2.1 plus a 3rd or 4th).
