Food and Drink Is it a terrible idea to stay home alone on Thanksgiving? - Page 5

My 1st thanksgiving since divorce, kids go to the ex-wife. Can't really travel to any family since I have to work Friday.

I have a few invites from some friends, but won't know most of the people there. They are all like 30+ minutes away too. I'm kind of digging the idea of just hunkering down by myself, eating whatever I have on hand, playing video games and watching football and movies all day. I might read a book, but it's pretty unlikely.

Just curious if anyone else has gone down this path and greatly regretted not spending thanksgiving with someone elses family.

This is only the second Thanksgiving not spent home alone in 15 years.

Bob Dole is sitting on the back porch because Dad, for some unknown reason, turned off the TV, the kids are not using their inside voices, and 100% of the adult conversation is about farming and trucking.

Home alone with beer and football sounds pretty good right now.

So, I've ended up alone today. I'm sick. My wife and son went over to spend the day with my buddy and his family as we had planned. Sucks to be sick on Thanksgiving, but I don't mind being alone.

It was a treat for me this year to not be the slave who did all the cooking, cleaning the house for guests, and baking a few days before. For once in many years it was a nice relaxing holiday to go out to a fantastic buffet on the water with family and no kids. Did it for the first time 2 years ago. This was the second time.

Only one person had to wreck it by texting me at 3:52 AM for the reservation time when he already had it sent a week ago via email. Geezaz! I couldn't fall back to sleep until 6:45AM. So was tired.

It was BYOB. I brought a couple bottles that at least one other person appreciated. It was more of a favor to my wife as she's trying to make friends.

And it was a terrible cluster**** of a meal. They'd consumed a bunch of edibles to start the day, so instead of sitting back and relaxing, I was jumping in to save dishes that were getting completely forgotten about. 20 minutes in and I got the "I'm so sorry" look from the wife. It's pretty much whatever I want to do for the rest of the weekend at this point.
