National media is stupidly obsessed with Deshaun Watson

One of the things I promised myself when we finally drafted a 1st round QB was to soak up as many media coverage clips and articles on the drafting of our guy as well as an assessment of the player himself. So I've been doing quite a bit of that.

I didn't think this would be such a ****ing issue. I thought the NFL Network coverage on draft night was just an isolated incident, when Rich Eisen was like, "What the ****??? Mahomes??? Not Deshaun Watson???" All they can talk about is how Deshaun Watson has the best resume of the rookie QBs because of winzzzzz. Stephen A Smith I would expect to be an idiot. But it goes down the line. Cowherd is obsessed with Watson, but did give credit to Andy Reid for being bold. Rich Eisen is continuing this bullshit stream about Watson. The only overwhelmingly positive sources I heard from were the Around the Horn folks... Woody Paige of all people predicting that Mahomes would have the best career out of all the 1st round QBs.

I have nothing against Watson, but I'm just shocked that the sources we've been coming across about how skillfully Dorsey played the field and how so many freakin teams were itching to trade up and get Mahomes have not been circulating around the post-draft coverage. Now that facts have come out and the dust has settled, people on ESPN and NFL Network are still talking about Mahomes vs Watson like it's still the pre-draft process in February.

I've got a couple Chiefs fan friends of mine (they don't want to join this place when I describe it to them for some reason...) who are actually MISERABLE about Reid and Dorsey choosing Mahomes over Watson. Part of their problem is they still buy into the myths about winning QBs in college, but the other is they simply don't get the right information. They're more casual Chiefs fans than I am, but they really got into the draft, and their takeaway is nothing but gloom because everybody on TV and radio thinks we took the wrong guy. And they're not going to buy what I know because, "I'm just another fan, not a sports journalist or an expert."

You may ask why this matters to me. I couldn't really tell you. I guess part of it is that last Thursday was the happiest draft night/day I've ever experienced in my life, and it's upsetting that not all Chiefs fans are able to share that same excitement and enjoyment that I did. I feel really sorry for them. I truly do. I think that's what's bugging me the most about all this.

Anyway, rant over. Go Chiefs.

He won a national title, against Bama. He has been on national TV a ton, and that's what the "experts" watch.

Mahomes comes from Lubbock, West Texas. Nobody gives a shit about Tech in the national media, so they never watched him or know much about him except what has been fed to them.

Instead of Mahomes running up and ****ing one of the cows, I hope he walks up and ****s the whole herd. Recognition will come, and it will bukkake all over the national media experts' faces.

I get where you're coming from. Some people just don't see it the same, a lot of times because they aren't invested enough to realize what's real and what's not.

It's easier to go off of what you hear on TV than what you actually discover for yourself, and all most people hear is babbling about Watson winning. But honestly, who cares, because Dorsey and Reid are the ones who actually had the big picture of this whole process right in front of them. As did the other coaches who were said to want 2PM.

Even I'd he hits and takes off in kc big, it won't be a big national media thing. Doesn't matter though.

I noticed after the first round that one of the top headlines on ESPN's website was Houston trading up for Watson. Absolutely nothing about the Chiefs trading up for Mahomes.

Watson is Tyrod Taylor. Isn't their velocity/MPH identical? The guy throws a wobbly assed ball. Dude is gonna be a bust.

It's fair. Watson is the National Championship winner. Can't take that away from him. He's more of a household name than Mahomes.

Eh... Get tyrod Taylor or better production from him and the Texans are a Superbowl contender. I wouldn't mind that as a Texans fan.

You know, I used to believe this, but KC is a powder keg ready to blow.

This team is loaded with stars, but they need the fuse to be lit. Kelce, Hill, Berry, Houston (I know, I know). They are all big-time players.

Andy Reid gets a lot of rep from the media, too.

How many other teams have that kind of lineup?

I don't see anything special about Watson. He was on a very good team and played well at times. They are obsessed because he went to the mat with Sabans defense and pulled one off. So what? Many a college QB have won national title only to be an NFL failure. I can't think of one lately that wasn't.

Matt L. Failed
Tebow failed
Leak failed
AJ McClarin failed but has the hottest wife so he won at something.
Vince Y. Failed
Any Ohio State QB. Failed

The list is much longer, I'm just tired. What they should be wondering is how Trubisky was ranked as the best. Andy and Dorsey grilled every QB for brains and chose the smartest one with the most talent. End of discussion.

Or you could have both as a headline.

It's annoying as shit. I get it being the main headline. I think, by the way, he was by far the most trending name on Twitter so seems like the fans are doing it too. But every day there's a front page story about how he loves his mom.

Sure, they'll get soms attention if he hits.

But look at the royals winning the series. Big deal for a bit, then on to the next whatever. KC isn't a big market. **** everyone, I'm over it

I've had a couple of friends ask the same question about Watson versus Mahomes.

I just tell them that John Elway was 20-23 at Stanford and never played in a bowl game. He seemed to turn out OK.
