thats' what worries me about pitchers who start out so hot..they get into the stretch for the first time in 4 innings and it throws them off rythm

Volquez is perhaps more susceptible to this than most ... his mechanics are so complex, I think he has trouble repeating when he switches from the windwup to the stretch.

Obviously if you have been using the windup your whole career, its too late to change now, but some pitchers only pitch from the stretch and I think thats a better way to go. I wonder if there's any movement at all in high school and college to teach young pitchers to only pitch from the stretch and forget about ever using the windup, to keep things simple. I think the studies I've seen say that the windup doesn't actually do anything for you, its just tradition.
