Lubeguard, Dr. Tranny, and Lucas Transmission Fix all have good reviews on Amazon. |

Hey car guys, what do you recommend for high mileage maintinence
Gonna rehijack thread back to original topic:
The sex wagon is getting a little long in the tooth. It's a 2006 GMC Sierra with 135K on it. I've kept the oil fresh in it, but it's been rode hard and put up wet. Since it isn't worth much of a damn thing, I'm rolling wheels on that bitch until they will roll no more. It's going to the shop for some love, so I'm wondering if there is anything else I need to be doing. It needs aligned, tires, probably brakes, an evap system leak that I'm going to try to have the guy find, and transmission fluid and filter changed. What else do I need to be looking at? It used to be that you needed new plugs and wires at 100K, but I don't hear much about it anymore. Is that still something I should look into? What about differential gear oil? What am I missing?

Maybe also look at Power Stearing and rack and pinion maintenance.

For many years anytime I had a vehicle with more than 100,000 miles on it I would add a quart of Slick 50 or Dura Lube or one of those kind of additives about every 3rd oil change. I used Slick 50 in a couple of the stock cars I built and raced. I have never had an internal engine problem. And believe me when I say I have never driven my cars any other way than hard. I figured I would have grown out of the hard fast driving addiction by now but I haven't. Never will I guess. Most of them have ended up at the scrap yard but none for an engine problem.

Depending on what's leaking in that AC system it may just be cheaper to dump a $20 can of 134a in it every year. The tree huggers won't like that advice though.

gear oils front and rear, transfer case, fuel filter (if it has one), belt, I would have them check the front end over well too(which should be done if they are going to align it but you never know). |
