Chiefs release WR Da'Rick Rogers

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Talented but troubled wide receiver Da'Rick Rogers was released by the Kansas City Chiefs just hours before they were to begin their mandatory minicamp. Da'Rick Rogers has caught only 14 passes for 192 yards and two touchdowns during his NFL career.

Rogers, 23, was one of the SEC's best wide receivers in 2011, when he caught 67 passes for more than 1,000 yards and scored nine touchdowns for Tennessee. But he was subsequently thrown off the team for disciplinary problems and transferred to Tennessee Tech.

Rogers has been unable to make it in the NFL. He signed with the Chiefs, his third NFL team, in January but hadn't been impressive during offseason practice. The Chiefs also may have felt comfortable releasing Rogers because of the emergence of rookie wide receiver Chris Conley, who has played well in practice.

Rogers pleaded guilty in May in Indianapolis to resolve a 2014 DUI case. He was sentenced to one day in jail and six months of probation.

The Chiefs also released offensive lineman Kelvin Palmer, who recently signed as a free agent, and signed offensive lineman Tavon Rooks of Kansas State.

See, I think that's what you guys are missing about most people chiming in about this... its not love, its just saying he's probably not as washed up as you think.

Its saying that having a reliable guy like this among the receivers probably isn't a bad thing, and if the coaches agree... then whats to argue about?

Speaking of it not being love, going to see this guy saturday in the Chicago area with Lynch Mob...

I don't know, but that's atleast a possibility... I do know that Reid put him on the FAST track to playing time once he arrived, and he had a few nice moments while he was at it.

Fast track? He had 13 receptions in 5 games. That's barely two per game. Had it not been for the 41 yard reception, he'd have had 12 catches for 111 yards.

Since the very beginning of CP, people have clamored for any "name", over-the-hill player, whether it was Hugh Douglas or Shawn Barber or Mike Peterson or just recently, Evan Mathis.

People have been prognosticating all offseason long how Da'Rick would be a #2 or #3, which was nonsense. Now, people are saying that Avant will be the #2 receiver?

The folks calling for him to be a top guy need to step back and take a deep breath, but he is still valuable in other ways IMO.

Oni is still in the band, just checked their facebook page a bit ago and his names right there.

The slowest guy out of the backs and receivers (if you don't count Avant) is Maclin...and he can flat out fly.

That's a lot of uncoverable speed if Alex can get past his mental block and start to throw with anticipation.

Don't forget Kelce who also has great speed for a TE.

We also have one of the fastest defenses (if not the fastest) in the NFL. Dorsey is building one hell of a roster.

I wouldn't get overly excited at this point, as it's just a bunch of unproven track stars after Maclin.

Dorsey is building for speed...you just hope these ****ing guys can play football or else he's the new Al Davis.

In this offense, it's predicated on YAC. Andy had a lot of fast players in Philly including Jackson, Maclin, McCoy.

I feel more and more comfortable hearing things like "natural hands catcher" when describing our recent picks

Conley has unbelievable hands, and he has intelligence.

I think he's more than just an unproven track star.

I really haven't said much about this draft, but he feels to me like me might prove to be the steal of this draft.
