The much-discussed potential trade of Branden Albert from the Chiefs to the Dolphins doesn’t appear likely at the price Albert is currently seeking.

Although the Chiefs and Dolphins can probably agree on compensation — the Dolphins sending a second-round pick to Kansas City — the hangup is that Albert wants the kind of money that the Dolphins aren’t willing to spend. Specifically, according to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, Albert wants between $8 million and $9 million a year on a long-term deal.

In other words, Albert is looking for the same kind of contract that left tackle Jake Long got from the Rams — the very contract the Dolphins wouldn’t give Long, which is why he left Miami for St. Louis.

If the Dolphins weren’t willing to pay Long that kind of money, it’s hard to see why they’d be willing to give up a second-round draft pick for the privilege of paying Albert that kind of money. So the Dolphins may need to look elsewhere for a left tackle. And Albert may have to settle for playing this season for the Chiefs, making $9.8 million, and hitting free agency next year.

If Kansas City EVER drafts a QB in the first round (maybe when I have grandchildren who want to put my ass in a nursing home), then what they do in drafts immediately following is of little concern to me. They can draft guards in the top 10. Take a few 5-techs. Why the **** not?

Because guess what? That shit doesn't ****ing matter. We have a QB.

And that includes spending draft loot to move up and acquire the best LT in the draft.

This team as it exists right now is 7-9ish.

We've got 6 Pro Bowlers entering the primes of their careers. But we can't expect them to hang around forever. One by one they're going to get old and feeble, and that decline will start very soon for some of them.

And what are we doing to supplement that inevitable future? Building a team around a franchise QB? No? How about stockpiling draft picks? No? Being smart with our free agent dollars? No?

How about using the 1.1 pick to remain stagnant at a position that nobody gives a shit about if you don't have a real QB?

Oh yes, we're doing that. Tread water. That's how you build up. No decline and disease to be found in that strategy whatsoever.

Sad thing is, I have to wait until Friday for anything exciting to happen.

The worst thing about selecting Joeckel, and I do mean this is the worst thing, is that the first round is going to be very, very boring.

It's ALREADY pretty dull, even if we select Geno Jesus Christ Smith 1st overall, because we're the first pick. There's no real gamesmanship. There's no excitement of seeing who will fall to us. I love that.

But now on top of that, the player we are drafting is so underwhelming as a presence, that it just totally kills the first night of the draft for me.

The Chiefs have to be oscillating between trading Albert and trading down. If you go too far, you have to hold onto Albert. Unless you really think Stephenson is going to improve.
