Let's talk about a few of the interesting matchups we'll see in 2015.

It's a dead slow time for football discussion right now and I figured this would be a good way of sparking up some Chiefs talk. Maybe draw in some rivals for a little heated discussion. I have some free time and thought this would be a fun way to waste some of it.

The upcoming schedule will give us some really interesting matchups that will play a huge role in the success of the team in those games. Let's talk about a few of them. So the OP doesn't get super long (and therefore unreadable) I'll be going week by week in looking at what I see as the pivotal matchups each game are.

Here we go

Week 1

Justin Houston -vs- Derek Newton

This has a potential to get really ugly for Newton and if Houston is there, he's gonna flat out destroy this poor guy. I wouldn't be surprised to see 50 start the year with a monster game of 3+ sacks in the opener. Mallett is a statue that's holds the ball too long and our secondary should be able to blanket their receivers. If the rest of the defense is at full strength, Houston is gonna be a destroyer of worlds in Houston.

Marcus Peters -vs- Deandre Hopkins

This is gonna be interesting if Sean Smith is indeed suspended week 1. It's a great matchup that will show us what we have in the kid and I think he is up to the task right away. I bet Peters has already watched a bunch of film on Hopkins and knows how he's gonna attack him. I can't wait to watch these two battle. It's gonna be worth the ticket price. I'll be SHOCKED if Peters doesn't get his first pick in the opener.

JJ Watt/Jadaveon Clowney -vs- Eric Fisher/ Ben Grubbs

If Clowney is ready to go, this could be a monstrous test for our guys week 1. JJ Watt makes a living putting guys on sportscenter and Clowney is penciled in at ROLB behind him. If Clowney is healthy and focused, it could get scary if Fisher isn't improved a lot since last year. It will be interesting to see if they need to have a TE help and keep Sherman back to chip or not as the game goes on. All in all, if the OL can do their job against that front 7 (hopefully with a little help by Romeo of not bringing the heat and forcing Clowney into coverage all game) I think we win this game cause our defense should hold their offense in check all day.

Jeremy Maclin -vs- Kareem Jackson

This should be a good test for both players. Jackson really came on last year and is a solid corner that Maclin will need to be on the top of his game to make plays against. They have similar long speed, so Maclins gonna need to beat him with precise routes to win individual matchups. If Maclin can have a productive day (a lot of that depends on the OLs ability to block that front 7), we should be able to
Score enough to win.

Other note able matchups:

Allen Bailey -vs- Xavier Su'a-Filo
Phillip Gaines -vs- Cecil Shorts

Seriously, you are football stupid if you think that.

Only one of those guys from last year is an NFL quality receiver.
Only one of those guys you mentioned for this year is an NFL quality reciever...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

Albert Wilson showed he can play in this league. He got over 200 yards in roughly 3 games, had very reliable hands, was solid in the YAC department and blew the top off of a defense (see Oakland game).

I know he wants to play outside, I can really see this guy being a very nice slot receiver based on what he showed last season.

I agree with you, but I do think that speed comes into play. Conley got consistent separation in college and he has elite speed.

A guy with those traits, along with natural catching ability, is an upgrade over the filth we had last season.

How much of an upgrade is the real question.

I am a big fan of that pick.
I've said I believe he will prove to be the steal of this draft.

But that's speculation.

Until he proves it on the field, he still nothing more than a question mark.

I really like Wilson...i think if Conley can catch on & contribute from day 1 then Wilson will end up in slot. I think Conley can be special...i like his upside a lot....especially as a red zone target.

We are really reaching for arguments when we're insisting that Alex Smith is going to trust a rookie WR.

I'm guessing Conley will be lucky to get 250 yards this year.

I actually didn't mean to include him in that list.

A lot of guys here think the guy has great hands, but I've read a lot about how his hands are very inconsistent and how he drops a lot of passes.

All in all, I think he will be a bigger, smarter version of Donnie Avery for us.
