Game of Thrones Thread

Feel free to discuss any future speculation, theories. Anything from the books is fair game to post. Everything that has been broadcast on TV or from HBO. No spoilers needed.

  1. If you watched or know the events that will take place in a unaired episode that has not been broadcast on HBO, you must put all the information and comments in a spoiler tag.
  2. Do not post any media of any kind involving actual content from unaired episodes without being in a spoiler. The only exception to the spoiler rule is content publicly posted from HBO and or the GOT actor themselves. Teasers, promos, trailers etc.

Any person unable to follow the spoiler rules will be banned from this thread. 14 days for first offense. Perm banned from the thread for a 2nd offense.

****ing hell. Would it really have killed them to cut down on Sam's puking to add in two guys and dialogue for the Tower of Joy?

As someone who didn't read the books, who are these two other characters and what did they say that you feel is so important?

He dreamt an old dream, of three knights in white cloaks, and a tower long fallen, and Lyanna in her bed of blood. In the dream his friends rode with him, as they had in life. Proud Martyn Cassel, Jory’s father; faithful Theo Wull; Ethan Glover, who had been Brandon’s squire; Ser Mark Ryswell, soft of speech and gentle of heart; the crannogman, Howland Reed; Lord Dustin on his great red stallion. Ned had known their faces as well as he knew his own once, but the years leech at a man’s memories, even those he has vowed never to forget. In the dream they were only shadows, grey wraiths on horses made of mist.

They were seven, facing three. In the dream as it had been in life. Yet these were no ordinary three. They waited before the round tower, the red mountains of Dorne at their backs, their white cloaks blowing in the wind. And these were no shadows; their faces burned clear, even now. Ser Arthur Dayne, the Sword of the Morning, had a sad smile on his lips. The hilt of the greatsword Dawn poked up over his right shoulder. Ser Oswell Whent was on one knee, sharpening his blade with a whetstone. Across his white-enameled helm, the black bat of his House spread its wings. Between them stood fierce old Ser Gerold Hightower, the White Bull, Lord Commander of the Kingsguard.

“I looked for you on the Trident,” Ned said to them.

“We were not there,” Ser Gerold answered.

“Woe to the Usurper if we had been,” said Ser Oswell.

“When King’s Landing fell, Ser Jaime slew your king with a golden sword, and I wondered where you were.”

“Far away,” Ser Gerold said, “or Aerys would yet sit the Iron Throne, and our false brother would burn in seven hells.”

“I came down on Storm’s End to lift the siege,” Ned told them... and the Lords Tyrell and Redwyne dipped their banners, and all their knights bent the knee to pledge us fealty. I was certain you would be among them.”

“Our knees do not bend easily,” said Ser Arthur Dayne.

“Ser Willem Darry is fled to Dragonstone, with your queen and Prince Viserys. I thought you might have sailed with him.”

“Ser Willem is a good man and true,” said Ser Oswell.

“But not of the Kingsguard,” Ser Gerold pointed out. “The Kingsguard does not flee.”

“Then or now,” said Ser Arthur. He donned his helm.

“We swore a vow,” explained old Ser Gerold.

Ned’s wraiths moved up beside him, with shadow swords in hand. They were seven against three.

“And now it begins,” said Ser Arthur Dayne, the Sword of the Morning. He unsheathed Dawn and held it with both hands. The blade was pale as milkglass, alive with light.

“No,” Ned said with sadness in his voice. “Now it ends.” As they came together in a rush of steel and shadow, he could hear Lyanna screaming. “Eddard!” she called. A storm of rose petals blew across a blood-streaked sky, as blue as the eyes of death.

Fast forward a few generations and you could legit be talking about hundreds of people with magical king's blood. Just makes me wonder..

It's fantasy so I'm not saying it needs to be realistic; I'm merely wondering how the lines will be defined within the universe. It doesn't faze me when some weird magical shit takes place because this show has done a pretty good job of setting up its own fantastical rules, but if Optimus Prime dropped out of the sky and started fighting white walkers I'd be like "what the **** is this shit?".
This is why incest destroyed royal families in the real world. The notion of keeping the royal bloodline pure. There is a specific line of succession and certain rules regarding who is the most rightful ruler in each circumstance, and then there are competing rivalries that make a case for "their guy" to be next up, amd there are also people who hold some bullshit claim that others are willing to follow along with. As I mentioned before, think of it like divine right exists in this universe so "king's blood" is a combination of those two concepts. The royal bloodline and the divine right of kings.

It's far better that they reused the same lines they gave Mance for Arthur Dayne.

So doesn't Hightower still have to be there? Is he in the room as the final guard?

I guess if out honest Ned lied about killing Dayne for an unknown reason yet revealed, then it could ne the same for Hightower?

Calling my shot for the record, the biggest reveal was that Bran can be heard in the past. He will change the future by telling someone something that causes the future to change.

He didn't lie about killing him. He clearly did. Even in the books he acknowledges he wouldn't have been able to do the deed WITHOUT Howland Reed. Perhaps Noble Ned was both giving credit to Reed and protecting his honor by never bringing up how he stabbed a Kingsguard in the back with a dagger?

I like that scenario much better. I don't want noble Ned as anything but noble Ned.

Lol. Patience Grasshopper. the Three Eyed Raven doesn't want Bran's head to explode by exposing the truth to him all at once. We will get more...

Yeah. Ned picks up his sword and hacks him down. Ned did the killing. Howland just poked him a bit for a distraction.

Dayne is a badass personified. To have seen a fight between the Sowrd of the Morning and Barristan the Bold....

And yes, seeing Ollie hang by his neck until he was dead ass dead was quite gratifying.

After seeing that shit, no one would stand a chance. Not Barristan, not The Mountain, not Oberyn, not Drogo.. **** me.

I really didn't expect them to make him a dual wielder. Which sword was supposed to be Dawn?
