Mals' Chiefs: A Madden Franchise
Fed up with losing in the playoffs? Want to draft a QB? Want to fire Andy Reid?

The Chiefs won't do it, but I will.

Tonight I dusted off my copy of Madden 2008 for the PC, grabbed an updated roster and off we go!

First order of business: simulate the 2015 season. Stop worrying. Everything is fine.

Week 2: Chiefs 28, Falcons 10

Any doubt about the Chiefs defense was answered as they throttled Atlanta's offense. Devonta Freeman had only 57 yards rushing and the Falcons didn't reach the end zone until garbage time.

Jamaal Charles turned in his first 100-yard game of the season, and added two touchdown catches.

The Chiefs dominated Atlanta without Dontari Poe, who left the game early with a minor shoulder injury. But not before he clobbered Freeman:



Allen Bailey clotheslined Freeman later in the game:



Around the league: Ben Roethlisberger threw 8 TDs in a 62-35 rout of the Bengals. Cam Newton was the player of the week, however, with 357 yards passing, 110 yards rushing and 5 total TDs.

Week 3: The Chiefs visit the Dolphins for a Monday night game.

Mmm...well online franchise died on the PC after 2006, I think? Not sure. You only need like 12 people to play, minimum, though.

The EA servers don't work anymore. You need to dload some updates to play online on a different server.

I can make a how-to video if we get enough guys. If not, we can find another franchise. A lot of people still play online.

Week 3: Dolphins 31, Chiefs 21

In a driving rainstorm, the Chiefs offense sputtered for much of the night. Rookie Chris Lamont was the only bright spot, with 9 catches for 114 yards and another TD, but it was far too little.

Kansas City could not run the ball, as Ndamukong Suh dominated the interior of the Chiefs line. After Charles fumbled to end a promising Chiefs drive early in the first quarter, Suh splattered Charles all over the turf on an ensuing possession.

At that point Kansas City decided to throw more. But, on a screen pass in the first quarter, Alex Smith got nailed. He would miss the rest of the game with a strained calf, giving way to backup Garrett Grayson.

The Chiefs then fell behind 20-7 thanks to Rishard Matthews, who had staked the Dolphins to a 13-7 lead just before halftime with a 77-yard catch-and-run TD, in which he shook rookie safety Keith Rhodes.

Mathews caught 4 touchdowns on the night, burning Marcus Peters several times. His third TD put Miami up for good, as he shook Peters, caught the ball in stride and outraced the Chiefs into the end zone.

Grayson did bring the Chiefs to within 20-14 late in the third, hitting Lamont for a TD. But later on, his inaccuracy showed, killing several drives.

The Dolphins went up 23-14 and, after the Chiefs stalled once again with 5 minutes remaining, sealed the game with Matthews fourth TD catch, in which KC was caught in an all-out blitz on third and goal at the 1.

Fortunately for the Chiefs, they get a break this week as they return home to face NFL Interception King Geno Smith.

Around the league: The Broncos are 3-0 despite averaging 191 yards a game on offense in 2016. Brock Osweiler is off to a stunning start with 112 yards passing per game and 4 INT. The Chiefs visit Denver after hosting New York.

Week 4: Chiefs 29, Jets 26

Geno Smith torched the Chiefs for almost 500 yards passing, but in the end could not score touchdowns, as Kansas City won in overtime.

It was an odd game for the Chiefs, who fell behind 9-0 early and also had trouble scoring touchdowns, leaning on Santos, who kicked 7 field goals ( from 41, 49, 46, 22, 23, 18 and 42 yards)

Drops were an issue for the Chiefs. Rookie Chris Lamont had another 100-yard game, but dropped 4 passes, leading to repeated stalled drives.

Meanwhile, Geno continued to flirt with disaster, narrowly avoiding interceptions.

With the score 9-3 in the second quarter, Geno made the first of his mistakes, fumbling the ball after a crushing sack by Dee Ford.

The Chiefs kicked another field goal following the turnover and eventually tied the game at 9 just before halftime. Meanwhile, Geno continued to flirt with disaster, narrowly avoiding interceptions.

Kansas City started the second half with Santos' fourth field goal, before the Jets finally mounted a drive culminating in a Bilal Powell touchdown run. The Chiefs responded by leaning on Jamaal Charles.

Unfortunately, a promising drive ended in another field goal, as Lamont dropped a TD pass.

Trailing 16-15, the Chiefs then appeared to lose control of the game, as Geno hooked up with Jeff Cumberland on an 84-yard catch-and-run for a touchdown. Cumberland got wide open off a play fake and then ran over Eric Berry.

The Chiefs punted trailing 23-15 with about 7 minutes left. All hope seemed lost. All Geno Smith had to do was pick up a few first downs and the game was over.

But when you continue to flirt with disaster...

Disaster bends you over and anally rapes you!

The Chiefs took Brandon Spikes INT and tied the game on a short TD run and 2-point conversion pass to Charles. Geno, however, had not learned his lesson, and continued to force the ball to Cumberland.

Amazingly, it worked, and the Jets led by 3 with a little over two minutes left. Lamont started catching the ball, however, and the Chiefs had a chance to win the game on third and goal with 10 seconds left, but were stopped a yard short.

Santos sent the game into overtime with his sixth field goal. In overtime, the Chiefs stopped Geno one final time and Santos was true from 42 yards out.


Around the league: The 4-0 Broncos have seemingly found their offense a week before the Chiefs visit them in Denver. Player of the Week Brock Osweiler threw for 472 yards and 5 TD in a 42-38 shootout win over New Orleans.
