Mals' Chiefs: A Madden Franchise

Fed up with losing in the playoffs? Want to draft a QB? Want to fire Andy Reid?

The Chiefs won't do it, but I will.

Tonight I dusted off my copy of Madden 2008 for the PC, grabbed an updated roster and off we go!

First order of business: simulate the 2015 season. Stop worrying. Everything is fine.

Oops. We lost in the divisional round again.

Your Super Bowl champions:

Onto the offseason!

I'll post retirees, who is cut/resigned, and if there are any intriguing fake quarterbacks for selection in the 2016 draft.

Gameplan is the same it was for the last Oakland game: play my LET OFF SOME STEAM BENNETT defense and load up against the run. I will not be beaten by Murray.

I am also going to be more aggressive on offense. I went full Herm against the Colts and it kinda backfired. You may see some hurry up offense.

The Autumn Wind is a Raider, ****ing you with Latavius Murray twice a year. Would Oakland make it three times in the AFC Championship game?

Spoiler!

Good shit.

My God, Peters in awful.
I've only read the thread this far so if this has been addressed then ignore this. Going by those videos of the Saints game, it seems that pass defense is mind numbingly bad. That doesn't even look close to the real Marcus Peters or really any Chiefs DB. So my question is what are Peters ratings? Perhaps you need to adjust the human defense sliders to make it more realistic.

On a similar play later in the game it looked like the same square in only with Kelce in the end zone and Kelce was open and that was a good pass.

That's a great question.

While I realize the actual physical on-field action doesn't really match the Peters we know, I would argue that the results do.

As a rookie, Peters gave up 70 catches for 923 yards and 7 TDs. He was beaten a lot.

So I don't think it's a stretch that he surrendered 33 catches during the first nine games of his sophomore season, got benched and improved slightly over the remaining 7 games (he ended up allowing 45 catches for the year and had 4 INT).

You'll notice that Sam Shields hasn't been toasted nearly as much.

Madden isn't perfect, so when I see Marcus Peters do something silly, like having absolutely no idea where a receiver is, I just interpret it as the video-game simulation of the real life Peters allowing a catch.

Anyway, I'm having much better defensive results now, so I doubt I will change any sliders. I'm winning enough as it is. Peters has also picked up 7 points of AWR (73-80) over 2016 so he should start next season.

Maybe I should make this interesting and start him in the Super Bowl.

Yeah, I get your point and it seems the difficulty is about right. Still, I've never seen Peters so unaware as in some of your vids. He may have allowed some catches in real life (first half of the season, not second half, btw) but he was never totally lost like your video game Peters.

I'm curious as to why Peters is so lost out there. Would you post his attributes as well as the other DBs on the team?

Yes. As I said, that is simply the Madden interpretation of "Peters allows a catch." I'm willing to live with it. The alternative is every 70 AWR rookie DB coming into the league and playing way above his head.

Well, in his case it's simply because he was starting and had low AWR (73) at the beginning of the season.

When I attempted to use Ron Parker there the results weren't much better (I think he was 75 AWR).

I got desperate and that is why Finnegan was signed (86 AWR). He is much slower and smaller, but I've given him safety help on almost every snap to compensate. Overall the defense has been better.

Gameplan for the Super Bowl will be very similar to the Colts game. I will be playing 3 DL on the majority of defensive snaps. Rodgers is going to have to work for his points.

I plan to be extremely aggressive on offense. I'm not just going to ram Charles headlong into GB's nasty defensive front.

Stream is live at 7.

If you stick around afterwards I'll probably jump right into the offseason.
