Happened several times in 2003, then. You are being obtuse. Shit, even happened in 2006.

Sometimes we get so caught up in what the game means in the bigger picture of the playoff race we forget how to just enjoy a game for itself. Believe it or not there can be good, enjoyable games even when your team isn't in the playoff hunt. |

I know right! Because Russel Wilson singe handily beat the Broncos.
The crazy part was how he held them to 8 points and continually harassed Payton and put the smack down on the Bronco receivers. He throws it, catches it, and plays defense. We need to find one of those! |

We do need to find one. Just need to start looking in the right places. |

Name 10 other QBs in the league that would fit better in this offense though. Even though he doesn't put up ridiculous numbers, he's still been one of the most efficient QBs in the league, just look at his 3rd down numbers.
He's consistently shown up in big games too, I can't think of a time we didn't at least keep it very close when playing in the big ones. Alex is one of the things we can rely on at this point, and really unless you have one of the premier QB's in the league, that's all you can really ask for. |

How'd he do in the big ones before KC though? And which three big games are you referring to? Because he was fine in the Indy playoff game, has kept us in the game against our division every time including two yards away from tying Denver in week 2, and led the most dominating win in recent Chiefs history against the Patriots on MNF.

I'm open to being enlightened. He's never put up a truly overall bad game in those and that's all I'm suggesting. Not saying he's elite but he's kept us in pretty much all of our games, including the big ones, and at QB there's some value in that

Example: "just look at his 3rd down numbers" So we are supposed to ignore 9 years of Alex having terrible third down numbers because he had great 3rd down numbers in 2 of our 4 games this season? |

Ok fine. Lets just look at 2011-2013. Alex's third down conversion percentage was not even close to what one should consider good.

That doesn't mean just Smith learning a new offense, that means the entire team learning a new offense. Go compare the numbers from year 1 to year 2 in Harbaugh's offense. Then compare year 1 and now going into beginning of year 2 in Reid's offense (with a ton of turnover in his OL as well). Harbaugh year 1- year 2 Comp %: 61.3 - 70.2 TD %: 3.8 - 6.0 Y/A: 7.1 - 8.0 Reid year 1 - year 2 Comp %: 60.6 - 65.6 TD%: 4.5 - 5.5 Y/A: 6.5 - 7.0 The same trend in improvement is there from year 1 to year 2. Smith's college coach, Urban Meyer, wasn't lying when he said that Smith gets a lot better when he is able to stick to one system and truly learn and know everything. I expect him to continue to improve over the course of this season and next season as well as the guys around him learn to gel together as well. Now go look at Kaepernick's stats in the same offense going into year 4 now, his numbers are kind of all over the place: Kaepernick under Harbaugh starting year 1 - 2 -3 Comp%: 62.4 - 58.4 - 66.9 TD%: 4.6 - 5.0 - 4.8 Y/A: 8.3 - 7.7 - 7.4 The only thing that has increased consistently for him is his INT%: 1.4 - 1.9 - 3.2 IMO, because of the nature of the type of QB that Smith is, I don't think that he has quite reached his potential yet. The guy has never played more than 1 and a half seasons in the same offensive system. Each time that he has had more than 1 year, he has shown improvements, and a bit more risk taking, in the following season. |
