If we're really going to start a poll and narrow it down, I'm of the opinion that only an original theme song should be eligible.
Any show that licensed an existing track (Great American Hero, Happy Days, Welcome Back Kotter, et al) shouldn't be eligible. |

Quincy's had enough escalades.
Plus, that is the producer(s) or Music Supervisor's decision to license an existing track, not a creative decision. Creating a theme song that's composed strictly for a series is nearly a lost art. |

the correct answer here is Underdog.
he was the first rapper....all about the rhymes. he made doing drugs cool and acceptable. (I know you didn't forget about the pill he kept in his ring). and his theme song is the shizzle.

Speaking of licensed work, 'Let the Mystery Be' for The Leftovers might be the most perfect ever for a show.

That's tough. Sanford and Son is some sweet-assed, funky fresh shit.
Definitely a classic that can not be ignored. But, Barney Miller has all the elements: The funky bass, a swanky NY groove, skunky guitar, and the obligatory horns of the 1970's. It truly is the champ, hands down. |

Another perfect theme intro: Simon and Simon

I don't dislike the Hill Street Blues theme but Larry Carlton has written dozens and dozens of better songs than that theme, IMO.
Also, FYI, Hill Street is actually a street in DTLA. I never knew until I had to serve jury duty back in like 2000. |
