I have smoked at least a pack a day for over 20 years. I had gotten bad as of late. 2-3 packs a day, even more if I was drinking. I would get up every hour to hour and a half to smoke at night. I have tried just about everything throughout the years. A person has to be ready themselves to quit. I have been trying to kick it again for a while now. I am using the patch (equate brand) seems to work just as good as the more expensive ones, make sure to get the clear ones, the other one seems to fall off before the day is through. I also us the BLU electric cig when I have a bad craving. I do good some days and then fall off the wagon for a day or two, but I keep climbing back on. When I drink it goes out the window every time. I am sleeping throughout the night now, and when I screw up I have never went over a pack. It is definitely tough as shit, but unbelievable how much better it makes you feel. I put on about 20 lbs since trying to stop and now trying to get that off, but don't have the munchies anymore like I did at first.

But it is hard quitting. It ties into almost everything I do. These habits become really hard to break.

Chewing tobacco is an effective alternative.

As someone who used to do it quite frequently and rarely does it anymore, my best advice would be to use pouches. Easier on teh gums and no cleanup required.
However, it is a nasty habit that should be avoided.
