Officiating and replay review in other sports compared to the NFL

As we've read recently, lots of NFL fans are growing increasingly frustrated with officiating and the replay review system in NFL.

I don't watch many other sports, so I don't know if this is strictly an NFL problem, or if it's happening across other sports/leagues. I'd like to hear the comparisons from all other leagues, from NCAA Football to MLB.

Who is using the replay correctly? Who is ****ing it up?

Which leagues have solid officiating?

Which leagues have officiating so bad, that fans are turning away like the NFL?

Who are the Jeff Triplettes of the other leagues?

Which leagues feel rigged like many claim for the NFL?

What is the equivalent of the catch rule in other leagues?

One thing the NFL could take from soccer is the whole idea of a trifling foul. If the foul has no 'real impact' on the play you don't call it. If there is a hold on the exact opposite side of the field the ball is being thrown/ran to it is ridiculous for it to impact the game.

Same thing with offside in the NFL... They blow the whistle way too quick and end play. This should play advantage and give the Offense a shot at a possible big play.

Absolutely. At the very least the officials should have a quick pow-wow and decide if the penalty had impact.

Just make every single play reviewable. Refs won't feel so up tight.

The NBA uses replay when a ball goes out of bounds and its hard to tell which player touched the ball last, and also if a shot is close to the shot clock or end of period buzzer, to see if the ball left the players hand in time. The knock on it is that it is being used too much, slowing the game down, and taking away from the rhythm and flow of the game. Also, sometimes teams take advantage of it and essentially it becomes an extra time-out. But people have been saying for years how they believe the NBA is rigged.. a lot if it may have to do with the whole Tim Donaghy betting scandal and the egregious 2002 Western Conference Finals between the Lakers and Kings. But many of those same people who are so sure the NBA is rigged won't entertain the idea that the NFL might be. I say, if one major pro sports league is fixed, they all are.

Refs are probably told not to call petty bullshit so the game doesn’t slow down. I’m sure there’s holding in 95% of the plays.

As does the NBA.. I think basketball is one of the hardest sports to officiate because a lot of things are bang-bang and have a degree of subjectivity that varies from ref to ref. The onus is on the crew to get together and say, "hey, this is how we are going to officiate the game today," and try to be consistent thru the entirety. That said, a lot of officials are pure dog shit at times. Also, regular season games get officiated wayyyy different than playoff/march madness games.

Baseball:: BALLS vs STRIKES are badly officiated, and could be easily fixed by the same technology they already provide to home and mobile viewers.

This could easily be done in REAL TIME on the BIG ASS SCOREBOARDS in every stadium.
Why there is an Ump behind home plate still calling balls and strikes is beyond any reasonable explaination.

You're right... its just because baseball is steeped in a lot of traditionalist bullshit that many older fans/writers don't wanna see go away. They say the human element is all just part of what makes baseball what it is.

If it needs to be used frequently, then it should be. That said, there's no excuse for it to take as long as it typically does.

I find that the NCAAF does a much better job than does the NFL, however, they still can take too long.

So they need to devise a system where they can be much more thorough.. and also much faster in deciding the review. This should not be a difficult feat.. but the real question is.. do they want to do this? and that's a discussion that can be continued in the other thread.

I've seen some of those strike zones on TV be horribly off.

A ball that would be borderline on the broadcasts k-zone would be 6 inches outside when it crossed the plate on the overhead camera.
