Going to New Orleans this Summer: WTF to do?
The wife, myself, and another couple are going to New Orleans for 4 nights this summer.

For those who have been there...what do you recommend?

I will be 32 at the time of the trip. I am an outdoors guy. Love the water. Love Beer. Love 'some' seafood. Not a huge wild and crazy night guy....I'd rather sit in a 'chill' environment with a pint in hand.

I would recommend checking out the Old New Orleans rum distillery. I'm not really much of a rum drinker but if I could get that here, I definitely would.

Also, I would recommend taking a little trip to Lafayette to see the Tabasco plant. It's a couple hours from NO.

The main point is that the shit is overrated as ****. Every time I have family visit down here, they always want to go to Cafe du Monde. And everytime we go, we have to fight to get a table, we have to flag down a waitress after sitting there for 15-30 minutes with no service, and all they serve is these little fried fritters that really aren't anything special.

The place is making a killing off of tourists that are told, "You have to go at least once!" Meanwhile, there are a **** ton of better places in New Orleans that are much more worth your money.

Here's the solution:

Let the visiting family have an adventure on their own and send them off to Du Monde alone. I can completely understand being bitter about it if you had to do it multiple times, but you shouldn't begrudge someone else wanting to do it once.
