If he's tech savvy and you want to have lots of options for apps and games, go with a Nexus. If ease of use is more important for the core group of most popular apps, Kindle Fire.

Yeah, if I had one gripe about my Note it would be that I can't just install stock android on it yet. Keep in mind that it is a minuscule gripe.
