What razor do you use?

What razor do you use? On your face, not your beanbag.

I've been using the Gillette Fusion for awhile, but I'm a cheap **** and want to find something better. I used the Schick Xtreme 3's a decade or so ago. So I picked some up and they chopped my face off. I don't know if I became a pussy or they got shittier. Anyway, I'm looking for some new options.

Remember Dollar Shave Club? It's the service that delivers fresh razors to your doorstep, monthly, for a fraction of the cost of the grocery-store equivalent. They had a killer viral video (above), but their high quality razors? Looks like they come from an online store called Dorco, and guess what: Buying directly from Dorco, you get the same great razors for about a third of the cost of Dollar Shave Club...
Docro is where I got my razor and get my blades from. The work well as long as you don't go a few days without shaving. If the hair gets too long it gets stuck in the blades.

I use Dorco blades as well. I would say the quality is 90% what I was getting with the Gillette Fusion I was using before, at 25% of the price.

Safety Razor, nothing better. Takes a bit to get it, but best shave you can get.

Other than the barber shop straight razor that is.

For blades, I use Derby, Astra, or Shark.

When I don't have a beard (and occasionally even now), I would much rather use a straight razor. High initial cost...but I will NEVER have to buy another. I have several straight razors in my collection, including one that belonged to my grandfather and is more than 70 years old! That particular razor is still sharp and shaves like a dream!

Here is what my favorite straight razor looks like:

I'm now learning the art of straight shaving. I switched to safety razors and traditional wet shaving last spring because my face was getting tore up from the cartridge razors. I have really enjoyed learning this old art. Though what was billed as less expensive has turned out not to be for me. Turns out I have an obsession with shaving soaps. Artisan soap companies are popping up left and right with new formulas for better lathers and amazing scents for every kind of event, weather type or whatever mood you happen to be in.

But I am excited about my straight. There is a decided learning curve and I am taking my time with it. I am looking forward to becoming proficient with it because I have read from several people that there is no shave like it.

I would like to try the single blade or the straight razor, but since I shave my head like a good Planeteer I think I'd need to buy the cartridges anyway.

I would like to learn to use one. How long have you been doing it?

How far away are you from being proficient?

I got the straight a couple of days after Christmas and have been working with it sparingly since then. I'll take a couple off between uses usually to let the nicks and cuts heal up a bit. Thankfully there hasn't been anything major to this point.

From what I've read on the shaving forums the straight shavers say you need 100 shaves before you can claim any kind of proficiency or expertise. I had number 10 last night.

Signed up for Dollar Shave Club over the weekend. I will probably go the full year unless they're terrible.

Remington rotary. 5 yrs on the same blades. I have to shave every other day or it pulls like a bitch. I'd replace the blades, but I may as well buy a new one.

You people ask a lot of personal shit on here, you know it?

"What razor do you use, what sunglasses do you wear, how many anal polyps do you have?"

Jesus.

What's the over/under on a new thread appearing in the next few minutes about anal polyps?
