This one truly hurts but we knew it was coming. I met him briefly as a teen working the amphitheater at worlds of fun. He was genuine and just a nice man. He was nice to everyone and that is not the case with many artists. BB a saint Chuck Berry was a genuine dick.

I had the good fortune to see BB in Columbia, MO in 1981 at Jesse Hall. He was old then, but played with a lot of energy. He was really the first guy who sold me on the blues, and led me into exploring that genre. He was a tortured soul, but also was a kind man and played shows non-stop, making it a point to play small venues, colleges and prisons.
There'll never be another one like him. |
