Had a job (big company here in kc) that had a hard on for it . I caught flak by not donating. I told them I spend probably 75 or more /month during riding season going on all sorts of random benefit rides. And I know my money is going direct to the people who need it. **** the employers

Plus, my wife has MS and we do some work with the MS Society as well. They should really watch what they say to people when they try to make them feel bad for not donating (employers). **** them...they don't know what someone may already be doing with their charity dollars

My company does this as well. I have personal reasons as to why (United Way refused to help my widowed grandmother with 4 kids) I won't give a dime to United Way.

I prefer to give my charitable contributions to smaller, local organizations or local chapters of larger (aka B.A.C.A.) organizations.

The suits pressure people to raise their department donation rate to 100%, or to raise a specific amount of money. The underlings all get tasked with being more and more oppressive until they reach their goal, so it doesn't look like they were assigned a task and failed.

Many years ago, while I was still a rocker rather than mostly sitting in my rocker, our band did an outdoor benefit performance with the purpose of generating some money for United Way. The big draw was having a motorcyclist make a jump over the band while we were playing. (To the song "Born to be wild")
Anyway, United Way wanted nothing to do with this event so we gave the money to some charity or another. I never understood if they were wary of Rock music or motorcycles. I've never contributed a dime to them since...
