I'm not saying it won't be good, but there's just nothing genius about it.
I'm speaking to the idea that when you improv each scene 4-5 times each, there's gonna be funny shit left on the editing floor. That being the difference- most takes are essentially the same thing.

Curb your Enthusiasm shoots like this also, based off a bone script of plot scenes and storyline. Louie CK's show has a bit more of a fleshed out dialogue, but will run improv scene takes for guys he thinks can actually bring something to the episode.

I'd love to see all the tons of film they have in the can over the course of show that's never seen the light of day because it didn't make final edit.

As a fan of the cast in general, all being funny guys, it's a cool idea to turn your outtakes into another cohesive full feature. Its a creative means of presenting additional content for those interested. That's all.

No, I agree with all that. It's just not anything new/genius/risky. I love this kind of stuff too. I still haven't seen the original A2 yet, but will likely check this out too when I get around to it. Although I'm guessing the amount of new material that is also as good, or nearly as good as what was not cut, will not be enough to fill a movie. The best ones would likely be a nice 20 - 30 minute outtakes segment on the bluray.

Anchorman 2 re-released with all new gags (+trailer)

Will Ferrell's latest hit movie will return to cinemas this week - with almost every joke replaced with a new one.

In an industry first, Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, which was released in December, will be refreshed and renamed Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues Continued - using footage shot, but not used, in the follow up to the 2004 original.

It will screen in 1000 cinemas across the United States this week.

"We started talking and realized, we can replace every single joke in the movie with another joke," director Adam McKay told the New York Times. McKay also wrote the film with Ferrell.

He said there were some jokes left behind in the re-released film, but 95 percent of them had been replaced with alternate gags that hadn't been used the first time around - 763 new jokes, to be exact.

The new version will be longer than the original, clocking in at just under two hours.

It seems it isn't money that's behind the push to re-release; Anchorman 2 has already made more than $200 million in worldwide ticket sales. Instead McKay said the idea came from the improvised nature of the films, which left a lot of unused, alternate takes from shooting.

"This is a stitched up, Frankenstein version," he told the newspaper. "You'll either love it or hate it."

It's not the first time films have been re-jigged, but it is the most extreme. In 1966, Woddy Allen added dialogue and a new storyline to his film What's Up, Tiger Lily.

I read an interesting article that Anchorman 2 was a disappointment because it was over-marketed. People saw so many clips of Ron Burgundy between Dodge commercials, ESPN, etc... that people felt like they pretty much saw the whole movie. It wasn't even that people got sick of him. Pretty unusual, when you think about it.

The alternate of the Original was good [Wake Up Ron Burgundy]

It'll probably be slightly less strong overall, but will still have some quality material.

Yeah wasn't bad. Worth at least a few laughs.

I was kinda disappointed with Anchorman 2 though, it started off real strong for the first 45 minutes, then the ending just wasn't' that funny.

This movie was pretty funny but holy hell was that last third atrocious! If not for the cameos in the battle scene, I don't think I would have laughed a single time.

Meagan Good and Tina Fey, though. Mmm mmm mmmmmmmmm.

One of the dumbest movies I have ever seen. Would have been more enjoyable snorting rock salt.

I didn't enjoy the 2nd one hardly at all. Though, when I watched the 1st one for th first time, I didn't like it either. but now I love it.

maybe I need to give it a re-watch.
