Time to accept what we already know.

The Kansas City Chiefs are a loser franchise. Over the years, there are countless people and decisions that have been blamed, but at the end of the day, it’s always the same: the Chiefs are losers. I’ve known this for some time now, but somehow, I keep letting myself get suckered in year after year. Shame on me.

I’m 40 years old. In my lifetime, I’ve seen 4 Chiefs postseason wins. 1 AFC championship game. 0 Super Bowl appearances. 0 Super Bowl wins. That’s pathetic, and the definition of a loser franchise. Few teams have a worse record of postseason success over that time. Yet, I keep letting myself think that maybe this is the season they prove me wrong. Shame on me.

Going into today’s game, I had no anticipation of a Chiefs win. They don’t win games like this. They don’t step up when it really matters. Yet, this was the year of so many unexpected, crazy wins. Deep within my heart, there was a glimmer of hope, that maybe this was a team of destiny. No surprise, I was crushed yet again. Shame on me.

The Chiefs are losers. I would bet everything that I have that they’ll not win a Super Bowl in my lifetime. Now that I live somewhere warm year round, I’ll no longer be staying inside on Sunday to watch - what’s the point? Sure, I’ll track the score from the beach, and maybe I’ll even drive up to LA to see a game every now and then, but my days of dedicating time and planning around this team are over. 40 years is enough time - I’ve had enough, and wasted enough. Shame on me.

Godspeed, Chiefs. It’s been a shitty ride. Shame on you.

Yeah, and if you want to go beyond that, either the Steelers or Patriots are going to win the AFC again.

That means the Patriots, Broncos, Steelers, Colts and Ravens will have won the AFC 24 of the last 31 years. That's seven appearances for the other 11 teams, and 4 of those were the Bills, obviously.

So you do the math on that, six teams have 28 of the last 31 AFC Super Bowl appearances. That's two generations of football fans who don't know anything else.

Context. Clearly, it's relative to sports fandom. I'm not jumping off a cliff, calling for anyone's head, or pleading to the gov't for assistance. I'm not lashing out in rage. I'm simply accepting that the team I root for are losers, and that it's time to start investing less time and energy into them.

We'd all be better off taking your good advice, regardless of which team we follow.

I think I possibly have a solid 50 years left on this earth, and for the life of me, I can't come up with a scenario where the Chiefs win a Super Bowl in that time span. The only potential positive is that Dorsey will presumably be picking our next HC and QB, because we're never going all the way with either Reid or Smith. But Dorsey has already missed on Carr and Prescott, so there aren't any guarantees even with Dorsey pulling the strings.

I think we'll break the Cubs 108 year championship drought. To not do so, we'd have to win a title before 2078. With Smith's and Houston's contracts, and with the Fisher extension, I don't see how we compete for a championship before 2080 or 81 at the earliest.

By the time the Chiefs win a championship, the playing field will be a big plexiglass dome and the players will have jet-packs on their backs and be flying around.

Two things I'm looking for this offseason. Well, one I'm definitely looking for and one pipe dream.

First, I don't want a single player from this team holding out for anything above average market rate. You aren't part of what happened today and then argue that you're an exceptional case. If anything, real leaders on this team will reveal themselves by making Brady-esque manipulations to lower their cap hit.

Second, and I've been thinking this most of the season, almost constantly since DJ went down. If there a way on earth we can separate Dallas and Sean Lee?

Big players step up in big games.

NO ONE STEPPED UP for KC today.

NO ONE...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

Sean Lee is made of papier mache soaked in gasoline, dropped on the surface of the sun. Anyone that signs him to a long contract is going to regret it as soon as his next ACL detonates.

Like DJ's Achilles?

I'll take a ticking time-knee over 7 YPC or whatever it ended up for the opposing RB.

It is what it is. You have to have a QB to win in this league. The Chiefs have no QB.

Think about it...this century it's been either Brady, Manning or Big Ben all but one time (Flacco).

Why should you invest much of your energy in the Chiefs when they don't invest their energy into winning?

By your own estimation, you don't need 'a' QB, you need Brady, Manning or Big Ben.

Either there aren't many of them, or no one knows how to coach players into them.

Achilles injuries happening in your mid-30s suck, but they aren't terribly surprising. Lee has torn ACLs in both knees and had a litany of other injuries that have prevented him from ever playing a full season, until this year.
