SSD Hard drives

How many of you have one in your computer?

I have a 2.5 yr old computer with one but my computer guy for some reason didnt put the operating system on it, so I heard Im probably not getting the full effect of it.

Im going to upgrade computers and going to buy another SSD, really only need a 128GB one. Ive been reading that you can keep archived files and stuff u dont really use very much on the regular HD with no problems. Anything I need to know? These things easy to put in and install by an idiot? (Me)

I'd just wait and save up for the 980. the 970's are having issues once they use up a certain amount of memory. Google it. I'm building a desktop now and I wanted to go with the 970 but figured it wasn't worth the trouble

Actually you can clone opp system from one hard drive to another. While not ideal it does work. You can get the software free on CNET. A fresh install is best though. As long as its not a 1 install OEM ver of opp sys.

Yeah, that's what I referring to when mentioning Disc Image.

I've used Paragon for years without issue.

Actually, Apple's OS X works exactly that way. Technically, you can do the same for Windows. You just have to run sysprep before doing so, which takes about 30 seconds.

Much easier than messing with making a disc image..

Really? That's awesome! In which version was this introduced?

I make a disc image once all of my programs have been loaded because it takes about 35-40 hours to install everything. So if I encounter any issues, I can just re-load the image in about 12 minutes.

But that's pretty cool.

It's been possible in both OSes for a long time. Back to OS X 10.5/WinXP at least. It's just not something that's talked about much outside of the IT support field because most people would still likely **** something up. But if you look on your Windows system, you'll find a Windows\System32\sysprep folder. You can use that tool to do a whole bunch of different things regarding Windows duplication/migration/etc. You could setup your OS install like you normally do with all your apps installed, then run sysprep, then take a snapshot image of that setup using Paragon. Then the resulting image you create could be applied to any Windows machine regardless of any hardware differences and it will boot right up. You may have to then install some hardware drivers specific to the new machine, only if Windows doesn't have a built in driver. But everything else will already be in place.

OS X is even easier than that, due to the fact that they control the hardware their OS runs on. You can literally take a HD out of one Mac and install it in another Mac and boot right up like nothing ever changed. That's changed a bit now because new Apple machines come with onboard flash storage instead of a normal HD. But you can still do a straight file dump from one machine to another and it will work just fine.

Any manner of methods. Use a IDE/SATA to USB adapter. Plug both the HD and destination drive into another machine. Use a bootable startup disk or flash drive. But a Kanguru cloner. Etc......

Got it. That is a really good idea, never thought about using that as a backup tool.

980's are a grip like 550 bucks, i do NOT want to spend that much money on a video card. I could get a 970 for about 340 ish. If they can drop to under 400 i'll do it, but if not, its not that serious for me. i dont game for hours and hours in a row, i game for an 1hour or 2 tops. I doubt ill have that issue.

I figured out the installation of my SSD, no problems. Installed fresh version of Win7 but can't get any network adapters to work. When I plug in a ethernet cord i get no Internet. Don't even see adapter for it
