Bands you wish everyone else knew about.

Every once in awhile someone somewhere will turn me onto a new band or group I hadnt heard of. Might be something older like Nat King Cole that you woldnt ever think you would like or something from your childhood that you just dont remember like Social Distortion that you have a new found respect for or a new band that you had to go find everything they had ever done.

Mine would be The Drowning Men, they were signed by Borstal Beat records after touring with Flogging Molly (BB is FMs label) the wife and I have seen them numerous times and its always a great show.
http://www.thedrowningmen.com/

My personal favorite song is "Rita". Enjoy

Im hoping to find some more good groups from this thread!

Don the drummer and Mel the bassist have two other players to replace Mark and have the legal name to Grand Funk. Mark Farner, the original vocalist and guitarist tours solo and cannot use the name Grand Funk, due to legal reasons. The last time they toured, the original power trio was '97 and '98 and I got see them in '98, and they were fantastic! Here's one of their best live performances that was recorded on Japanese Laser disc, Live at the LA Forum 1974.

Ha! Didn't mention Grand Funk because they were really popular in their time. They were just a great band. I even thought there pop stuff was really good. Their cover of "Inside Looking Out" is fantastic. But that leads me to another band that really doesn't get the recognition it deserves, The Animals. Their original version of that song is just as badass.

When the Animals were on Ed Sullivan it what great, they were like The Doors or Vanilla Fudge, nobody else was like those three. I loved the Animals and the first song I could play on the guitar was "It's my Life". Those 3 and for some reason I always liked Paul Revere and the Raiders. I thought Kicks was such a heavy song. I still follow Mark Lindsey on Twitter, he's about 75 and still playing. BTW, Eric Burton and War had some great tunes, always liked Sky Pilot and Spill the Wine.

I think this thread is veering slightly off topic.......

Grand Funk Railroad and Uriah Heep and Peter Tosh and Paul Revere and the Raiders? I think most people over 35 know them if they listen to music at all.

Never heard of the Aggrolites so that's a band I'll take a listen to to see if I like.....that I appreciate.

I feel the same way about Radiohead, I love Creep but I can't stand anything else they have released and yet they win awards.

Besides Kings of Leon, but other favorite current artist is Alex Band, sometimes he uses Alex Max Band, "Band" is actually his last name. Other times he tours as his original recording band "The Calling". The Calling featuring Alex Band. It's a bit confusing, but if he goes anywhere else in the world, Germany, Brazil, Korea or the Philippines, he draws large crowds. He started with The Calling about 2000 with their first album and they had one huge hit that was #1, Wherever You Will Go. I think he has a fantastic voice, here he is live in Brazil.

I wondered if that would get a hit. The album is my invention, but it fits right in.

A British band called Skinny Lister caught my ear at SXSW a few years ago. They've got good energy and they seem fun.

His first big hit, this guy should be huge

Besides being a really good song, it's recorded very well.

If you like Kings of Leon, you'll love these guys

My dad had that record - I used to listen to it when I was a kid. Funny as hell, and as my dad said, they have to be really good to deliberately sound that bad.
