For those who play Pitch, do you have any tips, pointers, stories, etc.?
I've got a good one from last night. We had 5 at the table, playing singles. This mouthy guy two seats to my left bid 2 on what ended up being a deuce, King, Jack. He won the bid and led with his deuce of spades. I was 2-suited with a Queen and a 4. I obviously threw my 4 in hopes that I could take his presumed 10 or Jack. The guy immediately to my left threw the Ace on the first hand so I knew that A.) the guy to my left was likely just one-suited in spades and 2.) the guy two spots to my left was likely not going for "high." He led the 2nd trick with a shitty 6 of hearts (I had the King) and noone trumped in by the time it got to me, so I took the trick with my King and led with a bad ten of diamonds, with hopes that the bidder would burn a trump on it and make his Jack more vulnerable to take with my Queen. When it got to him he sat there thinking...so I knew he was holding something. And he decided to throw his King of trump (spades) down and took my bad ten with it. He wasn't able to land his Jack until the last trick and I obviously held on to my Queen and to my surprise, someone was holding a bad ten of clubs and someone else was holding their 10 of trump...Therefore I scored 2 points (Jack and game) with that last trick... and it was all because I threw that bad ten that the bidder trumped with his King. I was so freaking pumped up. |

I love me some Pitch. 3 point, 5 point, 10 point, 13 point...
If you're playing 5 people, play call your partner. That's my favorite way to play.... I used to play online Pitch on Yahoo games all the time. But they shut that down quite a while back. Not aware of an online place to play anymore. But we should look. Hell I'd be down for a night of Pitch in person some time...

I nearly flunked out of my Freshman year playing so much pitch. Been a while.
Good non verbal communication with your partner is key. So you know what they are holding. IIRC. |

Yea, I played pitch for hours and hours in college. I don't know how early they let you into Allen Field house these days, but when I was there, for big games, they would let people in really early. We would get there early and play pitch for hours waiting for the game (no smart phones for entertainment).
I've not played 3 point. For 4 people, I like 5 point. For 5 people, call your partner is definitely the way to go (and I slightly prefer 13 point to 10 point). |

Don't bet on the Queen bro. She may have a louder mouth than Jack, but she's worth no points.

Love pitch. 6 point is more fun for me than 10 because there is more than just counting.

Wow, I've never played anything, but 4-point which is high, low, Jack game, but I'd definitely be up for playing any version.
They have it on this website called Schmear... I dabbled with it a bit last night... It seems like there has to be a better way to play pitch online... I haven't played yet, but downloading the app and registering for that site just seemed...frustrating. |

13 point is probably my favorite.
Ace Jack Jack(Off) Joker Joker(Low) 10 3(worth 3 points) 3(Off, worth 3 points) 2

I like 5 point because "game" is one of the points. However, we always played 5 point as individuals (not partners).
I really like the call for a partner, where you lead a card, call for a particular card, and whoever has that card is your partner for that round. The bidding can be far more aggressive when you are guaranteed that extra card. And then when you have a strong hand, like AKJxx, you have to decide whether to bid 9 and call for the Q, or bid 10 and call for the 2. |
