Hard to compare a guy like Nelson in his 4th season in a system to a guy like Breeland who was a late offseason addition to the Packers

Let’s see Breeland with a full offseason and full recovery from his injury.

I didn't say that i didn't like this move. I'm glad they found a JAG to fill the hole. Great.

It's a "whatever" till they find something better.

Sorry that im not going full homer over replacing JAGs with JAGs and then expecting this defense to take steps forward.

Albeit of course, Veach isn't done. And again, i'll refrain any projections till camp breaks.
The thing is, signing a guy like Breeland allows them flexibility in the draft. Instead of feeling like they have to get a day 1 starter with a high floor but lower ceiling (Baker), they might be able to take a flyer on a guy with more upside, knowing that he doesn't have to be an instant starter.

These are the kinds of guys that are needed to bridge the gap with the draft, which is ultimately where the core of the defense SHOULD come from, not free agency.

Whatevs. I'm not here to change anyone's mind, just to post my opinion.

Just don't act surprised if this is till a bottom 5 unit halfway through the season.
And what if it's not? How could we possibly know now, a full month before the draft?

That's five.
He's got him on INT's. I'll give you that.

TD's allowed? Your tripping balls if you think he's going a season with out giving up TD's. That's a stat that gets WORSE with starts, not better.

And the INT's/TD's is what's giving him the high "Passer rating against" markings, but the other stats demonstrate that he's getting beat more frequently, for more yards than Nelson was. And his poor tackling shows up in the extra YAC he gives up.

You got the missed tackles stat wrong.

Breeland is missing more tackles at a damn near 2:1 clip.

I didn't argue otherwise. I understand why this guy was signed.

BUT, if he ends up your starter because they didn't address CB in the draft (i mean, weren't we all expecting a corner last year in a loaded CB class?) then they will struggle.

I agree with Iconic 100%. Having said that, if I was took look at just the numbers and nothing else, I see more than just one better stat than Nelson.

I'm anxious to see Fuller and Breeland back together again. Now if the stars align and by some miracle the Chiefs picked up PP and draft a Safety number 1 I'd be stoked.

You're right on missed tackles.

I never said he wouldn't give up any TDs. I just said he had Nelson on that stat. If you expanded his play to a full season would he give up some TDs. I'm sure he would, but he'd have some catching up to do to give up more than Nelson.

Of course all of this likely means little since, as has been stated, Breeland was a late season addition to a new team and a different system.

Plus, a lateral move for less money is a win anyway. I don't see what there is to not like about this signing.

Are you looking at ratios?

You have a 0 TD's given up. Great. (But totally unrealistic to maintain)

You have 2 INTS which over the course of a season, at that rate is what, slightly more than 4 over 16 games? So basically what Nelson had.

Those two stats are what's giving him the "Passer rating against" stat.

Other than that he falls behind.

It's wishful thinking.

That's cool. It's rose-colored glasses season.

CP has NEVER been rose-colored glasses season. This is the time of year when everybody comes out of the woodwork to declare the upcoming season "over" and complain about the team being "doomed".

Never said i didn't like the signing. They gotta have SOMEBODY right? Might as well be a cheap 1 year flyer type guy.

It just doesn't make them BETTER than the '18 version.

The goal is to be BETTER. Not just cheaper. BETTER.

So, i'm patiently waiting for this team to get BETTER.

Yeah right, this is the time of the season where everything is awesome. Optimism reaches full peak around camp time, then dies down after the 1st preseason game.

They got rid of $40M in dead weight. They're already better.

Absolute BS. Every year at this time, a handful of people declare the offseason a failure because in 6 days, they haven't signed 11 superstars to completely remake whatever unit is failing at the time.
