Franchise QBs don't need a good team

To win in the playoffs and win the Superbowl. Where the hell did this myth come from?

Dan Marino never won a Superbowl, who does everyone blame? The team around him.

Steve Young didn't win a Superbowl until he had an All-star cast around him, offensively and defensively with Sanders joining the team for the 1994 Superbowl run.

Denver went out and signed Talib, Ward, and Ware, some of the best defenders in the league at their positions. But they have Peyton Manning, he makes everyone better, they didn't need to sign those guys to win the Superbowl, right?

New England went out and signed Revis and Browner. But they have Tom Brady, he doesn't need a great defense to win a Superbowl. Their FO clearly has no idea what he's doing wasting that money on those corners.

What is GB doing with signing Julius Peppers, trying to improve their defense with draft picks like Haha Clinton-Dix, and bringing in more WRs like Davante Adams? They have Aaron Rodgers, he clearly doesn't need the help, after all, he's a franchise QB. What are these crazy franchises doing?

Could it be possible that, no matter who your QB is, you need to surround him with at least a good supporting cast, that means OL, WR, RB, TE, defense, in order to have a real chance of winning the Superbowl? What a freaken concept, the idea that great teams win championships.

The point here is that the argument that Smith isn't very good because he needs a good supporting cast around him in order to win and have a real shot at the Superbowl is ignorant, at best. Give him a solid OL and solid receivers and he'll be as good as any QBs out there not named Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, or Drew Brees.

Right now Smith is trying to operate this offense with what might be the worst offensive line in the entire NFL combined with a bottom 5 receiving core. Yes, let's crucify him when he doesn't set the fantasy world on fire while playing behind this gem of an OL and with this "stellar" cast of WRs.

Quite frankly, unless the defense really surprises me, he'll have to play at least as good as Aaron Rodgers, at his best, can this season in order for us to have a shot at the playoffs much less a chance to win the division crown. Here's to hoping that Dorsey gets his head out of his ass and puts at least an average OL in front of Smith so that he doesn't have to run for his life after 2 seconds on virtually every play.

It isn't all about long passes. Reid's offense has always been based on a lot of short passes. Your obsession with YPA is ignorant and simplistic.

It's not all about it.

But Alex Smith throws the ball down the field LESS THAN MATT CASSEL.

That's not gonna win games in this league.

When your QB plays like that, you win games because of defense. Which is what happened in San Francisco, and what happened here last year.

Complete teams win the SB, not just teams with QB's that have great stats. Alex can win the big one being a guy that is smart and limits turnovers but it also can be a reason we don't win with him. He does play it too safe at times.
