Beetlejuice2

Beetlejuice. Beetlejuice. Beetlejuice. And Just Like That, Michael Keaton’s Ready for Sequel
By Bryan Enk

Well, it's not an official press release, but when it comes to anything involving the Ghost with the Most, we'll take every little tidbit we can get.

Hollywood is getting closer to conjuring "Beetlejuice 2," with the man behind the makeup, Michael Keaton, now chiming in. The veteran actor and criminally underutilized national treasure was approached on the street by an exhausting TMZ crew about whether or not we'll be seeing the further big-screen adventures of the Juilliard-trained 'bio-exorcist.'

"Is it a go, is it a green light?" pesters the TMZ reporter, to which Keaton replied, "That's what they're telling me."

Yeah, it's not exactly a confirmation, but at least it's better than "I haven't heard anything about it," which, quite honestly, was the response we were kind of expecting.

New rumors about the project are already flying high, including one that has pop star and Smurfette vocalist Katy Perry attached. Keaton didn't confirm or deny her involvement, though he did express his enthusiasm.

"I'd do anything with Katy Perry," Keaton told TMZ. "I love Katy Perry."

The possibility of a "Beetlejuice" sequel went into overdrive two weeks ago when The Wrap reported that Tim Burton was in talks with Warner Bros. to direct the long in-development project. The script has been written by Seth Grahame-Smith, who also penned the Burton-produced "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" and the Burton-directed "Dark Shadows."

Burton recently wrapped "Big Eyes" with Amy Adams and Christoph Waltz and has yet to commit to a new project. His next endeavor was shaping up to be an adaptation of Ransom Riggs's "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children," though that may no longer be the case.

"Beetlejuice 2" would mark the fourth collaboration of Burton and Keaton and their first since 1992's "Batman Returns." Many fans have wondered why Keaton hasn't appeared in a Burton film in over 20 years — there were arguably parts he could've played in "Mars Attacks!" (1996), "Big Fish" (2003), "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" (2005), and especially "Dark Shadows" (2012).

At least Keaton is working a bit more lately. He recently played the town drunk (who sounded a lot like Betelgeuse himself) in the HBO film "Clear History" (2013) and recently wrapped Alejandro González Iñárritu's ensemble comedy, "Birdman," which will hit theaters next year. And he'll soon be seen as Raymond Sellars, the probably corrupt CEO of robotics conglomerate OmniCorp, in the new "RoboCop," hitting theaters on Feb. 12, 2014.

Speaking of "RoboCop," tune in tomorrow at 10 a.m. ET/ 7 a.m. PT for our exclusive unveiling of the new trailer. And as for the "Beetlejuice" sequel, well, keep saying his name three times and maybe it'll be haunting theaters in the near future.

They have been trying to put together a sequel for at least 20 years. it would be cool if they could get all the original cast back together. Its not like Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis and Winona Ryder are doing much these days.

Is he going have a shrunken head to start the movie? Then maybe I'd want to see it.

Heh, what's funny is, if you watch that movie carefully, I'll bet Keaton is only in it about 15 minutes tops, and doesn't even appear until about 40 minutes in.

I can't imagine this as a movie in an actual theater.

Now, maybe a straight to DVD.
