Illini fan here. Cuonzo has been mentioned for a while. He would be fine, but he has been mediocre at two power 5 stops already. The 4 names I have heard the most lately have been Marshall, Keatts, Bennett and Archie Miller. Based on some stalker fans checking the flightaware website, our AD has made trips to both Wilmington and Wichita, so that means Keatts and Marshall.

We knew they weren't going to make a good hire, there's no use getting upset over it. The school has basically mailed it in on the athletics side.

Don't let Bill Self hear about it. He'll put a stop to it real quick. Unless it's one of his players and then he'll just sweep it under the rug and pretend it never happened.

Whatever MIZZOU's "leadership" does, they need to take into consideration that they MIZZOU sports programs have, generally, brought shame on the school and the state. While "it's only a game", they need to understand it's so much more than that. While CS1950 has done a lot to totally embarrass the school and state, the athletic program should realize they could change the back-slide.

Cuonzo was my top choice to replace Mike Anderson when we ended up with Haith, so I've liked the guy for awhile now. That said, he does seem to do less with his talent than many of his contemporaries.

So expound - do you believe his recruiting success has been overstated? Or that his teams have underachieved relative to the talent he's been able to bring in.

Because it has to be one or the other, does it not? In 6 years with TN and Cal he's routinely pulled in top 10 to top 20 recruiting classes and yet he's only made the tournament twice in that span and has only managed to win 2 tournament games in that period. That's a pretty poor record.

Is that due to talent acquisition? Development? Tactical deficiencies? There has to be something to explain it. Because you can say he's a 'damn good coach' if you'd like, but he seems to be developing a pretty clear record as an underachiever. Why do you think his ceiling would be substantially higher at Missouri? Or more accurately, why should Missouri fans see his ceiling as substantially higher?

Cuonzo has recruited one elite class. One. His average class is like no 32 or 33 if you look at composites at 247 over the past six years.

I think a lot of people who are pro Cuonzo Martin see a youngish black coach and assume that means ace recruiting. It doesn't.

He's a C/C+ hire. Much better than what they did last time, a little better than Haith, but not as good as they can do.

Mizzou needs to stop settling for good and try to be great. But it appears Sterk isn't going to do that.

Cuonzo is the Alex Smith of college basketball coaches.

I don't know what to think re: Crean. Whether he was the top target and is out or whether Martin was the top target.

What I heard today makes it seem like Martin is the top target. Obviously disappointing. But maybe we get lucky and Illinois saves Mizzou from itself.

Jon Sundvold seemed to be pretty positive today about it.

It's at the end of the interview.

What would everyone think about Chris Holtmann??

Just curious...have nothing to believe he's the guy or he'd even take the job...just gauging what everyone else thinks.
