The worst thing family does on holidays...

Just interested in things family, in-laws, friends do to meals on Thanksgiving holidays?

Is it packaged gravy mix? Boxed stuffing? Burned turkey?

I've got a few... my father-in-law goes all out. From scratch everything. Except he throws the turkey drippings down the sink and makes McCormick's packaged gravy.

But that's not even the worst. He microwaves his turkey. Not even kidding. It's horrifying. But to be fair, it doesn't taste as bad as it sounds.

Just serve a nice dinner of Carl Buddig turkey slices, instant mashed potatoes, canned green beans and canned cranberry sauce while you're at it.

Hey, hey, HEY don't be dissing the cranberry jello can looking thing.

finally one day, after quite a few martinis, wine, and beer, I looked up just long enough from stuffing my face, to say (which a mouthful of food....and staring at my plate)

"nah....can't. Doc said somethin's wrong with my semen" . then continued to eat.

literally has never been brought up again. I'm not sure if it's because i was serious or not...but I don't care. #worthit

This is awesome. I hadn't even really thought about the fact the kid thing is next. gonna disappoint a lot because neither myself or my ol lady wants kids.

The thing I hate the most is that my FIL has some old style dentures and has to eat all slow so they don't fly out. After we're all done, we just sit there listening to him gnaw away at a plate gone cold and Fox News blasting in the background.

well, lets see. Lumpy gravy, green bean casserole with canned beans, box stuffing, some crappy jello concoction with oranges, apples, and marshmallows, that is about it.

I'm doing a small meal for my family on Friday that will be real food.

Sometimes you're just watching news coverage, and it gets you all worked up into a froth and you need to clean your guns because you're scared. Sounds reasonable.

There will be Stove-Top served at my MIL's meal. I don't mind that. I actually prefer it to the soggy bread pudding style dressing my grandma usually makes.

I envision a table full of people, eating in silence. only the subtle, muted clanking of silverware hitting the plates. each person, quickly making eye contact with one another, then averting their eyes. all of whom are desperately wanting to ask the question of 'whappened to the TV".

when the FIL askes someone to pass the gravy, a family member reaches for it, while the others make eye contact with them - 'nudging' them with their eye movement to ask the question. as the FIL reaches for the gravy, they see the family member begin to open their mouth. All eating stops as they wait for 'the question', only to be disappointed with the question of "...so, the carpets look nice. Did you have them cleaned".

...then the subtle, mute clanking of silverware to plate continues.

My father-in-laws wife makes everyone hold hands during prayer.

The last thing I want to do is hold hands with anyone before I eat. I just washed my hands.
