VARSITY
-- I CHALLENGE YOU TO GIVE UP SODA!!!

Ok Fat ****s.

I'm challenging all of you 'pop' (as you say in KC) lovers to throw away the habit forever.

I'm a former user and have been clean for over two years now. I will do one 12-24 ounce cola once every month or less, So I wouldn't say I'm ENTIRELY clean - but pretty well behaved. Most of you pop heads drink tons of it, daily.

Well we have some darned good news tonight because tonight 10-08-14 if you commit we will end this habit or decrease it. I see no issue with rewarding yourself every now and again w/ a coke classic or whichever your poison. Provided you're seriously quitting. If it's something you can't handle and have to quit forever and NEVER reward yourself with a coke classic or whichever your poison, then certainly don't risk it. And only you know your type and restraining ability.

I'd like to challenge anyone who has thought about this but never been pushed. It's just not that hard to quit. So.....

Anyone down?

That's your opinion that its worthless info. I gave you data...it was just too long ago. Also, I said I go by my doctor. No, you know nothing about aspartame. And I knew you would reject any data I would put up because that's what you usually do. Your mind was made up. It doesn't matter what I would put up. That's why I don't bother.

I already stated my background which covers more knowledge and practical application than you, so how am I not "into it."

It's because you don't read bullshit wellness sites. Don't you know chemicals are bad, man?

I know. I'll go back and tell my professors that they should have taught me how to read those sites instead of peer reviewed journals. What were they thinking!!!

The article in the Dr. Hyman link I put up makes that claim too.

Don't you know those studies are controlled by big business to push out poison to people, except for when the results go the way we want?

And yet you rejected an article using the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition publication which says they are recognized, peer-reviewed clinical nutrition journal.

Ya' know as I said before, there is a different standard the healthcare practioners who promote wellness use than what medical people use. They are orientated completely differently.

We already discussed why that article is worthless, because you can't remotely prove causation from such a shitty study. They even say that at the end! You actually have to learn how to read research to see if it actually means anything.

Conclusions: Both SSB consumption and ASB consumption were associated with increased T2D risk. We cannot rule out that factors other than ASB consumption that we did not control for are responsible for the association with diabetes, and randomized trials are required to prove a causal link between ASB consumption and T2D.

I've limited it to great effect, but I still buy my Coke and Pepsi... its the perfect drink for too many things not to, like burgers and pizza just for starters.

I dont usually drink beer with meals but a cola is the perfect substitute.

Beer with pizza for me. I find soda, since I've been off it so long, is too sweet with a savory meal. In a cocktail I and see it.

Look, my original post commenting on this was to someone who said "nothing wrong with diet soda" in the context of a thread about giving up soda in general. When someone says that, it sounds like they are just substituting and still drinking it fairly often. So to your point about moderation, I agree.

Then again, just because the FDA approves something doesn't always mean it's good for you. IIRC, it was Coke that wanted to use aspartame and it was someone who once was at Coke, who then went to work for the FDA and helped get it approved. How scientific is that? Saccharine was banned but is still, iirc, allowed in Canada. That's less bad for you than aspartame according to some.

You can use laughing smilies all you want, but there's been enough reporting on aspartame than that one link....and again, I trust my health care practitioner. The closer to nature you eat of things fit for consumption, the better off. That is with few exceptions. Too much fruit juice isn't all that good for you either because of the sugar.

I'm probably in the minority, but I just dont want alcohol while I'm eating unless its a few sips of wine with an Italian/Greek dish.

It truly does add to the enjoyment and flavor at those times, though.

I don't like cocktails with a meal myself, generally speaking only. There are a few alcoholic beverages that I think go great with certain dishes. Beer is one of those for me with pizza or even game food. Magarita with Mexican is another. Wine is another...in fact it goes well with nearly any dinner. Bloody Mary with a brunch.

We had coke growing up because my father, being Italian, felt it was a disaster to drink milk with Italian food. So we had it with Italian dishes with tomato sauce and cheese but were only allowed it then which was usually once a week with spaghetti.
