How something is built and from what, can save property even in a Cat 4. My shelter was a newer building built to survive a Cat 5 and 185 mph winds including the hurricane glass. That's what the police and principal both told me.

I have been in a cat 4 (some say was CAT 5) truth is you never know when you have 200 mph sustained winds with gusts exceeding that. Anything breaches the structure and it is good as gone.

I feel for you man. We had a bad ice storm here in like 2001 or 2002 and were without power for 11 days. Man, that sucked balls. We stayed at my father-in-law's duplex where he kept the thermostat on like 90 degrees or something.

We had a 8 truck crew from St. Louis come into our neighborhood about midnight that worked until everyone had electricity about 8:00 pm.

These guys were vets at this kind of thing. The eye of the hurricane went right over our neighborhood. Thats why they were sent to us first when they got here from St. Louis. They were amazed as were we, that there wasn't more destruction. We really dodged thar hurricane bullet.

Was your home flattened?

I thought cat 5 was 185 mph winds.

Concrete structures have to also be reinforced with other materials like steel etc. Otherwise, it's just like a pile a rocks that can be blown over. I saw a program on TV in the 90's about tornado walls that have been tested that work. Probably too expensive for a whole house.

I have power but no AC. I'd rather have AC and no lights—if there was a way to choose.

I am now seeing water stain streaks in my living room ceiling that didn't show up the first days after storm, because I checked. Between the AC unit flaming out when power surged back on, pool cage screens blown out and this—I filed an insurance claim. Gonna now do a second inspection.
