This fan base doesn't have the patience to let a raw QB start week one. You morons would turn before the season is over no matter how much you try to deny it now. Haurbah knows QB's, he still started Smith over his guy to develop him and get him ready. Reid started our OC over his QB McNabb. It's just how it works. If you throw a raw QB out there he will fail. Luckily Reid knows more about this than you, and is signing a QB no matter what.

If you just give the keys to a rookie they likely aren't going to give it their all to be the best they possibly can be because they ready have the job. There is a reason our OC and QB coach have previously worked with Reid, a d that our franchise QB will have friendly competition/mentoring from a QB who also knows the offense. You do everything possible to set up success for the QB, especially when there's no Luck in this draft.

Is Geno Smith Andy Dalton caliber? Ryan Tannehill caliber?

You want me to name more qbs that started right out of the gate? Stop living in the 80s, the game has changed. Adapt or die.

This team needs 2 (realistically 3) new QBs. Hasselbeck is a guy with playoff/Superbowl experience, a relationship with the HC, and is too old to be a legit threat long term at the position. Perfect mentor for a rookie qbotf.

Fine he can hold a clip board. Hire him as a coach. But if he gets more snaps than the new guy what a waste.

How about you start naming new WCO teams that didn't sign a veteran WCO QB to get things started.

So your saying they will sign and start a veteran qb, not because it is the right thing to do, but because they're idiots.

The only idiot in this is you. And you're the one assuming a veteran would beat out our rookie.

Not sure why the insults are necessary. But just so I understand, you're saying that we HAVE to bring in a guy it would be moronic not to, but he's not going to play anyways so yeah.

Brilliant logic there Socrates.

Yes it makes more sense than what you want. Not sure why you'd want Palko caliber backups. You keep throwing out lame examples that are in no way similar and just further proving you don't know what you're talking about.

You can't point out a single WCO that didn't sign AND draft a QB. Lets look at the QB oriented HC's. point out an example from those where that coach didn't also sign a veteran.

I don't disagree. To me the ideal scenario lets them battle to start week 1, with a schedule to get the rookie on the field by midseason if he doesn't win the job outright.

The only catch is your coach has to have the balls to yank the vet even if the season is going well, ala Alex Smith vs Kaepernick.

Please stop with Alex Smith.

This will be his 3rd consecutive year as a free agent. NFL starter caliber QBs don't do that.

Since '09 he's been a pretty consistent QB, and turned into a fantastic QB when Harbaugh arrived, who happens to be a pretty good QB coach, not unlike Andy Reid.

At the end of the day, he's going to get traded or released. He won't get a bunch of starting job offers across the league, we're talking a handful at best. It isn't for lack of skill, simply because people don't know whether it was him or harbaugh that started producing that managed to cultivate the increase in performance, most people will credit harbaugh.

Development and stability are more important at the QB position than any other position out there, guys are going to stop developing physically after their second or third year, the rest will be mental. Given the fact that the kid had 75 different coaches in that short span, most people are going to back off big money and the opportunity to see him play and take that risk.

What this means for us is that there's always going to be the possibility that he could end up taking the job here, knowing he's going to get benched for our QBOTF either in this season, or next, and that he'll have a job here as long as he performs well and acts like a model teammate, but not at the big dollar pricetag he has been searching for.

How in the **** has he been fantastic since Harbaugh arrived? He averages less than 200 yards a game and less than 20 TDs a season. Hes the very epitome of a game manager. He averaged 173 ****ing yards a season last year before he got hurt. That's worse than Cassels WORST season as a starter.

**** Alex Smith and everything he stands for.
