No Alex or Charles in the final preseason game

http://www.kansascity.com/sports/nfl...le1302653.html

Quote:
Chiefs coach Andy Reid said he’ll rest most of his starters, including quarterback Alex Smith and Jamaal Charles, in Thursday night’s preseason finale at Green Bay.

Backup quarterback Chase Daniel will start and play the first quarter, and Tyler Bray and Aaron Murray will split the last three quarters.

“It's good,” Daniel said of starting the preseason finale. “It's what you want as a guy, and they're going to be resting the starters, obviously. So you want to go out there and put some good drives together.

“We need to score. We need to get in the red zone and we need to score and feel good about ourselves Tennessee week.”
Charles, who has missed the last two preseason games because of a bruised foot, has practiced this week and said he “feels good.”

The Chiefs said Charles bruised his foot a few weeks ago while carrying a box out of a dorm at Missouri Western, where the Chiefs held training camp.

“Yeah, it was a freak accident and I’m just happy to be healthy again,” Charles said.

Charles said his three carries in the preseason opener against Cincinnati was enough work, and he’s ready for the regular season.

“I’ve been in the league for a long time,” Charles said. “I’ve had plenty of carries before, so having three carries in the preseason doesn’t make me … those stats don’t even count. The real game counts week one against Tennessee, and that’s all I’m worried about.”
Injury report

Outside linebacker Tamba Hali missed practice because of a swollen knee and he likely won’t make the trip to Green Bay. Offensive tackle Eric Fisher (illness), wide receiver Dwayne Bowe (quadriceps) and Junior Hemingway (hip) did not practice and are not expected to play on Thursday.

The Star’s Terez A. Paylor contributed to this report.

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

I applaud your optimism, but I am not so sure. I really HATE to make any judgments on preseason action... really do... but man, this could swing the other way and be a disastrous season. The receiving corps and OL really are that aids-ridden.

KC's hope should be that the defense will play more similarly to the 0-9 start of last season.. so that the KC offensive line can get their shit straight for a while.

There are lots of game-planning and plays that get put on the side in PS games... but when it comes to OL blocks... they can either block worth a shit or they can't. I don't know... the season could net them 9 or 10 wins... or 9 or 10 losses.

Players win games.

What player, at any position, did we draft or sign that was better than the player we lost over the last two years?

What positions has this team gotten better at?

QB. That's it...

Yes. All the good coaches love seeing their starting QB get hit, sacked and scramble for his life in the preseason. All of those unblocked rushers were just to test Alex's surgically repaired shoulder from a few seasons back. Make sure the screws are still holding firm.

Corner?

Owens is an upgrade over Dunta Robinson.

I like Cooper better today, than I like Flowers.

And, Fs. abudullah WAYYYYYYYYYYY > Kendrick.

just my opinion. Flame away.

Even if I agreed with that it means we got better at no 2 CB, Nickelback, and FS while our whole offensive line went to $3it and the rest of our aging talent got a year older...

I admit that I'm not sure they were purposely putting them in rough situations on offense but I am positive they were doing it on defense. You can see it when you watch the games and Sutton specifically talked about it.

I am sure the o-line will play together as much as possible. They haven't had much practice together. People have come in and out of that line like crazy. However, it went like that last season too. Albert, Fisher, and Asamoah all missed time. We have a QB who can run and a RB who can catch. With the way our offense is designed, we don't need an A+ o-line. We will throw short passes and screens with the occasional play action down field pass.

I am optimistic. Our HC knows what he's doing.

I think our HC does.

I don't think our GM does...

Agree with this... plus, adding in some expectation that many of the 2013 players will benefit from experience in the same scheme.

I'm not even too worried about the WRs, if they can stay out of the top 5 in drops. Not too worried about the TEs, if they can remotely stay healthy.

Biggest issue... as it was a month ago, and is today (if not more a concern) is the OL.

To some level, yeah. I mean, if KC went out and traded for Boone or Mankins, there would still be an IF factor on how well they transitioned to new surroundings. We would just have a bit more faith in them versus some unknown and current scrub.

A group of us went to the Vikings Chiefs PS game last weekend and went to KCLIVE afterwards and were in the VIP section for about 20 minutes with Charles before security realized we weren't with him. He was chatting with us and everything. He told us that he wasn't gonna play in the last PS game but that he wants to break the rushing record this year for yards in a season.

Everything went south when my girlfriends brother asked Charles to sign his jersey...which is obviously frowned upon...especially when the jersey is a Vikings jersey.

It was pretty cool. We were in the back corner when he came in and came straight back to our corner and security proceeded to block it off with us still back there.

If Ty didn't do that dumb shit, Id probably have some epic tales...
